The wars of the smartphone specs just went up another few notches...
Gionee Elife E7 boasts most sensitive 16MP camera, 2.5GHz Snapdragon 800

Hey BlackBerry, should you be worried about the Chinese Android competition?-gionee-elife-e7-hands-.jpg

"Gionee isn't exactly a name that you'd come across in the Western market every day, but this time, the Chinese company has big global ambitions. The latest proof is its Elife E7, a 5.5-inch 1080p Android phone that boasts two titles: it's the first known phone featuring the 2.5GHz flavor of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 chip (MSM8974AC); plus it has the most sensitive 16-megapixel camera, courtesy of its Largan M8 lens (though the aperture is still unknown) and 1/2.3-inch sensor with large 1.34m pixels. Compared to the competition, Gionee believes this particular OmniVision sensor has the best balance between resolution and pixel size, and the phone maker even went as far as claiming this already beats the 1.12m, 16-megapixel counterpart on the yet-to-be-announced Galaxy S 5. Of course, we'll believe it when we get to properly test the E7's camera ourselves"

    Couple questions, first:

Will it ever be released out of China?

Will it work on non-Chinese networks?

    Will it explode?
Ealaionta, Carjackd and modine like this.

Probably cheap as chips, stunning and absolute latest generation 2.5 GHz Snapdragon, full HD, new generation 16 MP shooter, Android with access to thousands on thousands of apps. A company based in the world's second largest economy. Something to think about, or are we not talking specs (BlackBerry don't do specs, BlackBerry do "optimization")
    Merely asking the questions here...

The masses (80℅) want value for money, specs, apps, freedom to configure their phones and an established ecosystem. What does BB have to counter?

Yeah, but are specs as much of a big deal in, say, Africa/SE Asia as they are in NA?

Is it because of affordability, ignorance or maturity that they don't care that much about the spec wars? If so, why does NA care that much about specs?

As I see it, there's more disposable income to spend on apps/fancier phones in NA/EU. Outside, there's more emphasis on communication, which is why BBM, WhatsApp and LINE are ruling the roost. The security, speed and not-SMS factor of BBM are its strengths, and if a low-end Curve can send out Ds/Rs or double checkmarks as fast as the fancy phone in the OP can, then what's the difference?

Initiatives like using airtime as money or BBM Money make more sense in markets where the mobile phone itself takes precedence over a phone/tablet/cloud relationship.

N.A. has a very strong "bigger is better" mentality.
