Yeah I was waiting for them to post this publicly. I wonder if the issue with the non BlackBerry devices has to do with the device itself (iOS and Android) or the applications. Secure Work Space being vulnerable is an issue.

The patch better be out soon in the end today Q10 / Z30 End to End BES 10 is the most secure.

I believe BES 12 will have all this secured.

It's not just BlackBerry. It's everyone. I don't see how iOS could be immune, because I'm sure some of the secure transactions connect to servers that aren't immune. This is a big mess.

Link is under list of affected.

probly means we shouldn't use Link until they patch it, no?

BlackBerry looks really bad on this. Specifically BBM and Secure Workspace. They better get a patch out today!!. Apple is claiming iOS is not vulnerable (of course that could be a lie). But, if iOS is safe and BBM/SWS is not, BlackBerry looks foolish.
    Nothing new about that.

Apple claimed iOS is safe. So what? BB10 and BB7.1 (and earlier) is safe too. BES10 and 5 is safe. BBM for BlackBerry also unaffected. Looks like the ratio of BlackBerry services and products overall amount to affected services and products amount is not that bad, right?
Especially considering, that this vulnerability is global.

But the main question here, as always, what the media will say.

"However, BlackBerry noted the flaw is "non-trivial" to exploit. Still, users might be wise to err on the side of caution and avoid the apps if they can until the company has a patch.

BlackBerry's core products including BlackBerry smartphones, BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5 and BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 were not affected, it said."

    grrrrrr

I love (read: HATE) how they don't get to this part vindicating BB until the middle of the article, and the very very end of the section of the article that discusses BlackBerry... they just mention how bbm is unsafe, and don't even bring up the idea that it's mainly BlackBerry services on OTHER platforms that are affected, therefore it may even be something with the implementation on their side...

i mean, it might seem minor, but contrast how the Apple section runs: positive news of no Heartbleed bug with followed with an "oh-by-the-way" account of Apple's own secutiry hole- their own proprietary glitch (so it's actually worse imo whereas Heartbleed got everybody through SSL so you can't really blame any one company for being vulnerable)......
compared with how the BlackBerry section runs: says they confirmed that "several" products were affected which infers their phones as well, then a footnote that the most important stuff- everything running BB10, and BES weren't affected.... literally leaving uncertainty ("might be wise to err on the side of caution and avoid the apps until they have a patch......") and waiting until the very last line about BlackBerry to give the statement that they made that basically says even the vulnerable parts are still pretty safe.... i'm sorry, but give me a break.

    alright...

    /rant

i dunno, is it just me? lol, maybe i just need some breakfast....

    100%

cuz the problem is most people aren't going to see or get to the list of non-affected products, so they just see the ones that are... they see 4 products affected for BB, 0 for Apple... plus with Apple claiming safe and BBM being the only thing on their phone that's not safe, BB looks like an infiltrator/weakness since it is the threat in an otherwise "safe" environment (going off Apple's word)...

kinda like how BB is all about security, and Android is known to have issues, so people are always wary of Android apps... so in this case to the avg iPhone user, BBM would be like those sketch Android apps...

ugh, I don't like that thought one bit....

My impression is that anything with 'open' will have known security vulnerabilities.
Partially because it is easier to access the code to find them.

OpenSSL, AOSP, etc - all show signs of security problems.
If you are a security specialist / developer then would you work for highly paid government agency or contribute free code to an open source project?

    What about Blackberry Link?

People use this to back up data and update the operating systems on new phones.
