What's the difference between these profiles? I have a Curve and the Aliph Jawbone, and the Jawbone always detects with the Hands-free profile, not the Headset profile (the Curve supports both). The Jawbone does not play my ringtone, it has its own little alert tone it plays, and it does not carry any other sounds from my device. Any way to get the Jawbone to use the Headset profile instead?

This is a complete shot in the dark, but I'd guess the headset refers to a wired headset.

Hmm. My Plantronics 2500 detected as Headset on my Nokia 6230. I wonder of it's a function of the phone or the BT headset. The Curve supports both profiles.

Here are some more details from wikipedia...

    Headset profile

it seems the fact that the curve supports the handsfree profile would mean that you can use it with a car that supports bluetooth phones.

(wtf? i can't post links until i have 10 points??)
