It would have been a hit guaranteed. Blackberry reputation killed BB10.

I don't get it. Why on earth would Google want a branded phone not running Android?

It's a 2 OS world (just ask microsoft). People have expectations (app compatibility being #1) that BB10 can't deliver on. Hardly anybody buys a phone anymore based on how well it does email.

Or is this going to turn into another "apps don't matter" thread?

If it had access to all of Google Play.... even the BlackBerry name wouldn't have stopped it.

There were a LOT of things standing in the way of BB10 and namely the Z10 at that time, from becoming a success.

BlackBerry's name had been damaged, yes... but many still gave the product a chance.
Buggy OS, too small battery, poor camera, and just so-so hardware all around - plus a lack of ecosystem... doomed the Z10 right out of the gate. That was their one "possible" shot and they wasted it. From then on it was just a waiting game to see how long they could keep pretending they still had a chance.

Sadly I just don't think you can introduce a mobile OS to compete with iOS and Android five years after they were introduced. Don't care if your name is BlackBerry or Microsoft....

Common sense would tell you that in the mobile platform arms race, companies like Apple, Google, and even Microsoft that have many more resources and revenue streams will end up with a more robust platform. The idea that BB10 is so great and just needed some marketing flies in the face of common sense. There's no way that BlackBerry has that many more talented software engineers than the big three.

In the end, BlackBerry 10 will end up in the same category as webOS - a mobile OS that was somewhat hastily put together under tremendous time pressure, released half-baked, and ultimately doomed by a lack of third party apps.

They would have topped the charts with Google play/services along side Bb10 with the Z30 and passport being the first phones.

If there ever was. Read the thread again before posting and if it bitters you, you dont have to share your opinion. Simple as that.

You make a good case for low spec devices. However, Microsoft was on a downward spiral themselves which is why you can attribute their poor performance in the mobile department. So if you think about it, BB and windows had that in common.

If it was a google devices, you can be sure there would have been developers willing to develop for bb10. To the mahority, bb was dead long before they really were
