So Verizon has locked GPS functionality for all but BB Maps and Navigator... i get that. Since BB Maps GPS was unlocked via firmware upgrade, does that mean that using one of the "unofficial" firmware upgrades from another carrier would unlock GPS for Google Maps? Or is the GPS "lockdown" separate from that?

You can use Verizon's official 4.5 OS (4.5.0.77). The link is available on verizonwireless.com

The lockdown is separate from the OS, it's probably in the service books needed to use the phone on VZW.

I have been running 4.5.0.89 and now 4.5.0.97. and the GPS is still locked to VZNav and BB Maps.

I think they may be opening up to telenav for individuals. They already unlock for corporate accounts of 5 or more units.

The lockdown is unrelated to firmware.
