GPS Location problem on 8830
Hello everybody!
I own a 8830WE since around 8 months. I'm always on the road so I find the GPS capabilities of the device coupled with the Blackberry Maps software quite handy. What I usually do is that I find my current location using the GPS and then get the directions to go to some customer's office.
Everything has been working great for the first 4-5 months but now Blackberry Maps is incapable of getting my location. I can manually enter two addresses and start the GPS navigation and it will (most of the time) follow me but everytime I select the "Where I Am" location, it searches for about 1-2 seconds before popping up a "Unable to acquire satelites. Please try again from a location with an unobstructed view of the sky."
If I hit "ok" and try again right away, it will restart the "searching for satellites" window for "hours" without ending up on anything. It happened 2 or 3 times that it finally found something but over 95% of the time it doesn't.
The funny thing is that I tried Google Maps and the GPS function does work in it. The problem is that I don't really like the way GMaps works plus it sucks up over 100k for every map view! With my 4mb plan I can't possibly use it...
My carrier (Bell Mobility) has been absolutely useless if fixing this issue. I tried a whole bunch of different things and finally ended up doing a complete wipe of my device (using JL_CMDER) and reinstalling everything from scratch. What happened? Same damn thing!!
Do you guys think it could be a hardware issue? It did slipped out of my hand 2 or 3 times but didn't drop from too high and outside of that I really take great care of it.
I know there are many different other mapping softwares for the BB but I tried a bunch of them and always want to go back to BBMaps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! (and sorry for the 100 pages post :D)
