got a question about the curve and OS6
hello planet people
so i was wondering ..why didn't bb 8520 curve never got os6 .. or maybe a light os6 .. it's like 9300 come to think of it ..
also .. 9800 is almost like 9810 so why no os7 ?
and bold 9790 what was the point of that touch screen .. it is just pure ugly ..
it would have been full of sense to be a bold 3 with os7 but hey this is just me asking silly ..
despite i am a great bb lover ,sometimes i really don't like RIM .. :-/

Regarding the 9790 I gotta tell you I much prefer it to my 9900. Sure, it took me a while to start using the touch screen as much as I do but the more compact size, more positively tactile keyboard and despite having a slower chip it gives up nothing in terms of performance. Far better battery performance and an auto focus camera go a long way to make up for its "ugliness" too.
As to OS7, or at least the lack of it on certain devices, I think you'll find it has everything to do with chips that were too slow and RAM that was too small. - 01-12-2013, 08:39 AM #3
On the 9800 / 9810, the 9800 had a 600mhz processor and the 9810 has a 1.2ghz so it is probably lack of horsepower available to run the new features in the OS.

The obvious reason for the 8520 not getting os6 would be that it had already got its full version upgrade as it launched on 4.x of some sort, the memory demands of os6 were too high and also the typical 8520 user was never somebody who was eagerly awaiting the latest and greatest software as shown by their choice of device.

Another difference between the 9800 and 9810 was the inclusion of a dedicated gpu in the 9810 to handle the new "liquid graphics" in OS 7. Since the 9800 doesn't have the gpu, it can't run OS 7 at all.
As for the 8520, without looking it up, it may well have been a ram amount issue. OS 6 needed so much more ram just to load that it may not have been possible. Did the 8520 have at least 256mb of ram?___________________
