Numerous Blackberry users in other forums are reporting either problems installing/running the latest version (ver 1.6.3), or they are complaining that they loose key search features entirely that they had with previous versions. Unless someone can explain a key reason to upgrade, if you currently have a working version of Google Maps on your device, I would not uninstall and/or attempt to upgrade. The only new "feature" I can discover is that the latest version of Google Maps makes it easier to run on a Windows Mobile 2003 device and higher.
This thread from the Google Mobile Help forum is worth a read if you are having problems installing Google maps, or need a previous version so that the app will run on your specific Blackberry model at all.
