Girlfriend and I going back to Whatsapp
- I'm in a similar situation as yourself. However, it's not like whatsapp pictures are of much higher quality than the standard BBM ones.
It's like would you download a 300mb porno, or the same porno in HD 900mb's? Good things come to those who wait.
I stopped using whatsapp for these kinda pics as whatsapp has little to no security/privacy. BBM messages however can not be tracked. If I wanted my gf's pics to be leaked to god knows who and god knows where, yes I would use whatsapp.
Otherwise, I prefer the security of BBM and HQ option which isn't even available on whatsapp.
From the Q10 Until the Q3012-13-13 07:17 AMLike 0 - You're all making excuses right now.
I use to be a fan boy too, but I'm tired dude. I just want something that works and has high functionality. No more excuses. I hope Chen thinks the same when he's in meetings and is hearing excuse after excuse why something can't be changed/done. We have all been in meetings or part of group projects where we had that one dude make a million excuses. I hope he fires that person.

12-13-13 07:40 AMLike 4 - Yup - a little disappointed in BBM on iOS too. I've had my wife on it (iPhone 4S) since it was released, and it lags so badly on her phone she's been close to uninstalling it several times. She's about ready to go back to SMS only (sucks for me - sms lags on my phone). I'm trying to get her to compromise, and alternate until it gets fixed. She won't go back to BB due to poor customer service from a couple years ago, which is a shame. She doesn't care that they've changed and offer some of the best CS I've ever had.
The pisser is that she hates her iPhone for screwing up all the time lol if only I could get her to use my Z10 for a month.
Not talking about the general BBM Photo issue - that should be a choice to send HQ or LQ.12-13-13 08:25 AMLike 0 - Especially in this day and age lte and wifi is more common more then ever especially in the western countries. Sure we got developing countries who have little or slow access to Internet and yeah they should give those regions the option.
But when we go to the north American market it's unbelievable that we still need to compress the images, and those images are at best good to view as a thumbnail. Try to enlarge it and it's just blurry.
Maybe if they didn't try to compress it 90 percent of the file size heck even compress it half would be better. For all those folks defending BlackBerry it just shows how out of touch you guys are. If you live in North America 4g / lte and wifi is everywhere it's not gonna take more then a couple seconds at most to get a high quality picture. So why would you guys try and defend Bbry.
I believe the only reason Bbry compresses the file is not because of the limits of people data plan or speed. Its because their servers cannot handle it. If they want to compete and become the king in cross platform messaging, they gotta go above and beyond what's out there.

The app is excruciatingly slow on her iPhone 4s. Plus, when we get inappropriate in our messages, it's a real bummer to have to "request high quality" picture every time. And then we can't send videos either.
I have 103 bbm contacts. But until usability and functionality is improved on bbm, both the cross OS version and the native, I'm afraid the recent pump up won't last.
We're just one example. But I wonder how many others are in a similar situation..

Hopefully they're working feverishly and are fully committed to BBM as I personally believe they have a chance to be successful with it as one of the top cross platform messaging plus clients! Channels could be huge if they continue to add features and improve it, for example.
If you haven't already directly sent your suggestions on to BlackBerry I'd encourage you to do so (and everyone else on this thread). I joined the Beta Zone so I could give feedback on a regular basis. Posted via CB1012-13-13 09:08 AMLike 0 - Why don't you just buy her a "better" iPhone? 4s is slow with IOS7, can't just be BlackBerry's fault12-13-13 10:50 AMLike 0
- Congratulations on being picky about the fact BBM is smart in the way it sends pictures.
Additionally, I'm not sure why there are people here complaining about BBM for iOS being slow and ****ty. Most of my current contacts are iPhone owners and I can't tell the difference between sending a message to iOS and sending one to a BB or Android. Tough luck, but maybe try Skype, an actual video chat, to do your dirty business.
Additionally, try sending an MMS instead of using IM. Just as fast and send original quality every time.
BBM for iOS isn't half as fluid as WhatsApp is for iOS. Also, how is it smart if it only allows you to send one picture at a time? I'm sorry but can you open your mind and think. You talk about being "productive" since you're a BlackBerry owner and don't realise that BlackBerry solutions aren't always the most productive in every way. WhatsApp had security issues, agreed. That was due to a group of hackers that hacked several other websites as well, including Avira.
Btw, the BBM icon on iOS sucks xD
But really, all those saying BBM works better on iOS and Android are just wrong. It has its pros and its cons. Its cons are very evident on other platforms and do not give the same performance as on BlackBerry 10.
I don't know why you'd want a "smart" way which doesn't let you make a simple decision as opposed to an efficient way as well as a personalised way. I am a fan, not a fan boy.
Posted via CB1012-13-13 11:09 AMLike 0 - BBM is very un reliable on Android and IOS at least here in Singapore and Indonesia. Most of my friends are back to whatsapp because of the lost messages.12-13-13 12:14 PMLike 0
- I was having some issues on iPhone 4s. After uninstalling, rebooting, and then reinstalling BBM, all problems cleared up.
On Android, you cannot disable the BBM icon in settings. Doing that will also disable push BBM messages and photos and put the BBM app in a paused state when the Android OS runs low on memory.12-13-13 01:06 PMLike 0 - Unless you are planning to make 8x10 prints of photos received through BBM, I have never seen the need to request higher quality photos from BBM. I find the compression actually works quite well.12-13-13 01:21 PMLike 0
- HQ images do matter especially when you want to show off something (not referring to their nudes)
Why can't BBM send multiple images? Honestly, this is a feature they should have implemented years ago. (WhatsApp has it)
Just imagine how annoying it would be to request HQ images for each image if you want to send someone some nice pictures and not the massively compressed pictures. Oh and just imagine how annoying it would be to send each image individually. :/
WhatsApp does have an edge on BBM in certain ways, and BBM does on WhatsApp in certain ways. If everyone had the same user experience as BBM on BlackBerry 10, BBM easily beats WhatsApp, although multiple images with the option of HQ images automatically sending and receiving is a must.

Smaller images are sent automatically and are instantaneous. Due to their size.
I have to wait with huge images and if I like it I can request it. If I don't want to give a larger image I can say no.
Personally I like this option cause I don't have a lot of data.12-13-13 01:50 PMLike 0 - OP I really hope that you rethink that. BBM is developing and new features are coming. I can't imagine going back to WhatsApp after using BBM on all my devices. And I prefer sending the higher quality pics on request....smaller packets being sent is a good thing. Not all pics need to be high quality.
By the way I'm using it on an iPhone 5. It's Christmas.....get her an iPhone 5S....she's due for an upgrade.
Seriously, rethink that. Nothing beats BBM.12-13-13 01:53 PMLike 5 -

That would be convenient.
Sending a high end picture. Shouldn't that be an option for the receiver?
And currently both you can decide on that by clicking on the picture and requesting an hq image then the sender deciding if it's warranted.12-13-13 04:30 PMLike 0 -

My gf on the other hand, has a BlackBerry 10 device and I can do video Chat and I haven't come across any 'native' issues that would make me leave it behind.
Besides that, I really do hope those other issues the op is having are resolved because I do have friends and family on other smartphones.
Mate has an iPhone so he doesn't seem to be complaining But I won't be ignorant of the fact there might be things causing issues.12-13-13 06:23 PMLike 0
