    Hi all,

I wanted to start a fresh thread to allow everyone to provide their current, up-to-date viewpoint on what they think is the most likely prognosis or future of BlackBerry 10 OS. Please reply to this thread with a vote of outcome A, B, C, or a custom outcome prediction if you are opinionated and ambitious!

Outcome A: Sales have definitely picked up and BlackBerry will utilize this as an opportunity to continue probing the consumer market. Losing music and videos in the app world is hardly a setback as the Amazon Appstore partnership will provide a huge advantage to the platform and, not to mention, the videos and music are technically still available through the distributor's app. The Passport and Classic, while certainly not "hip", all-touch devices, will afford BlackBerry with sufficient enough success to continue trying to make consumer handsets, not only for emerging markets, but for us as well. BlackBerry may eventually find its way into carrier stores again.

Outcome B: While sales have picked up some, and despite the fact that some new, non-emerging market consumer devices are coming, these devices are still mostly going to appeal only to enterprise customers and prosumers/niche customers. BlackBerry will not make enough profit to continue making phones for consumers in general, and as a result, one must desire an enterprise-intended phone or emerging market-intended device should he/she want a BlackBerry in the future. This will cause the BlackBerry App World to lose more developers and slow down new non-enterprise app development. BlackBerry 10 OS itself, however, will continue to be actively developed.

Outcome C: BlackBerry will not gain sufficient traction to continue making handsets at all. Any handsets that are sold with BlackBerry 10 in the future will be made by another manufacturer in addition to being intended for emerging markets or enterprise use only. This will essentially cause the death of BlackBerry App World, and Amazon Appstore offering Android apps will not be good enough for consumer enjoyment should they even go out of their way to keep using hardware with BlackBerry 10 OS on it. As for BlackBerry 10 OS itself, updates will become fewer and farther between and development may stop as BlackBerry may decide to switch to software and services for managing other platforms only.

You can reply simply by writing the outcome letter corresponding to what you think will happen.

I appreciate everyone's insight going into one clean thread!

Blackberry becomes profitable making specialty handsets and providing end to end mobile security. Gets bought up by Google to dominate enterprise and personal device needs.

Just a friendly reminder for all that I'm not asking what you want to happen, but rather, what you think is most likely to happen.

Though I have the feeling that it might not be for long as political situation is rapidly changing and dragging the economically situation with it. In few years there might be a world war 3 where will be the dawn of many companies

Don't get me wrong, mate. I want A more than anything of my wishes for the mobile industry...but I cannot be blindly optimistic...

And for the record, I consider outcome B still very optimistic and it wouldn't be a terrible prognosis.

    C. BB10 is mostly abandoned already. The plan, I thought, was to develop a strong native OS and app catalog to meet the combined needs of work and play. But look at the BlackBerry talent picture (defections and firings) and developer relations (firings) as they relate to BlackBerry. Not looking good to accomplish the goal. Developers themselves have been sold out horribly here, both in terms of the new strategy that leaves them mostly high and dry, but also the device choices (niche, low volume form factors whose total sales failures won't help developers) and market focus (third world poor nation emerging markets that don't have as much money to spend on apps, making earning difficult for devs). Third party development is also slow here--have you compared the update frequency of BlackBerry apps with iOS or Android apps? Chen makes no secret that he wants out of consumer apps, dumping even free services like Score Loop. This, I think, is why BlackBerry has the lowest developer mind share of all the major OS's and why its trend is downwards.

No devs will ultimately mean no BB10.

Enterprise niche alone won't support BlackBerry, and Chen will have to sell unprofitable parts of the company because he hopes to sell BlackBerry, so market failing handsets division will have to shrink or go away. And who cares if only a few ugly business phones survive, when all most of us wanted was a Z50?

    B. BlackBerry needs a home run. I suggest full integration with QNX in the car. This is the future of devices.
