Well, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I think the Nexus 5 is a great phone, but I don't see it, or any of its successors, becoming a hit if they continue in this spirit - though I will definitely be considering buying one myself.

And yes, the Nexus 4 was backordered, but that's because they misjudged demand. In reality, the best figures available (LG and Google publish no official figures) suggest somewhere around 3 to 4 million units were sold. The iPhone sold 9 million units in the 5S/5C launch weekend, hence why I said it was far from a hot-seller. Now of course, it doesn't need iPhone-like sales to be a commercial success, but to be a hit in the minds of consumers? It needs to come close at the very least.

The most telling part, however, is that the iPhone costs more than twice as much at retail price - and a hell of a lot more at the crazy launch day prices you see people shelling out, such as Kevin's $1500 golden 5S.
Hmm, how does that compare to the Z10?

Maybe people will have to talk to each other , that would be novel.

Some company will come up with some "must have" item at the right economical moment for them, probably all have smart watches of smart glass spectacles that are retina activated.

I am banking on smoke signals personally , only need matches.

Probably pretty similar, maybe slightly better than the Z10, though that's entirely besides the point - the Z10 is almost certainly not the next "big thing" either.

Wearable tech hasn't been a hit so far, but I'm waiting for Apple to jump on the smartwatch bandwagon - I have a hunch consumers are going to be all over that.
That's because it's not sought after and not affordable. It's just a niche segment.

Anyone notice that eventually it's going to go star trek communicator and you just be able to press your badge and ask the computer anything you like or talk to anyone you like.

    I await that tech..

Blackberry changed the world in 2003.
Apple changed the world in 2007.
Who or what is going to change the world in 2014?
As far as phones go, nothing. The iPhone will most likely continue dominating. I assume this based on their Q4 results from yesterday.

I want to say Nokia added a lot in terms of the hardware package in 2012 through the Lumia series. The next thing is probably pushing the idea of what we will be willing to do with our devices.

What's next is probably something we don't know yet. I think modular customizable phones (Phoneblocks/Motorola) have a lot of promise once the execution portion of it is worked out.

The problem with the Nexus 5 is that Google doesn't offer it at a subsidized price around the globe - they only do it in a few countries. In the US - a lot people are on postpaid 2 year contract phone plans and these people won't be able to get any real value out of buying a Nexus phone. In the US, only Android developers and people with prepaid phone plans with AT&T, T-Mobile, AIO Wireless, Straight Talk, Net10, Simple Mobile, etc. get value out of the Nexus phones.

I don't think it will be Apple, BlackBerry or Samsung. The space is poised for a sleeper to shake things up.
How about smart watches, LG's 5.5in 2560x1440 pixel display phone, curved displays, flexible displays, phones accompanied by the newer OS's ( Ubuntu, Firefox OS, Tizen, Jolla Sailfish), or a reboot of Meego Harmatan?
