If you mean password locked you will lose all data. It will be reset.

So I'd basically have to re download everything, and re-enter all my contact info (all but what's on my memory card right)?

It will do a complete wipe of all your data, leaving you with a "fresh" OS.

You will have to reinstall all non native apps as well as add your contacts again.

With BB, security is key. I am glad it wipes everything when the password attempts max is reached. That's awesome if you happen to lose your BB, because anyone trying to access it will end up wiping all your info for you.

Ok, then what's the best way to back up my bb so I can at least retrieve my contacts? Something that I can actually access from the bb itself. Being that I caught my nephews trying to crack my password and almost using all my attempts.

You can make a backup in DM so if they were to wipe it you can just load the backup to the Berry.

    Use the Desktop Manager.

Do a normal backup, and also a 3rd party application backup. Instructions for that can be found in my sig below.
