Is there a way to adjust the microphone settings on the 8520 model?

I have a brand new phone and the the microphone appears to be very weak because the other end of my phone calls can barely hear me.
All I hear is an echo of my own voice.

When I use the headset I have the same issues so it doesn't appear to be just a faulty microphone.

It shouldn't be like that, if it's a new device then you can try to contact your carrier and ask for another device if you have warranty.

yes, unfortunately the phone is from the U.S and I live out of the country so I don't think my chances of getting a new phone under warranty are very good.
I have looked all over the settings on the phone, there doesn't appear to be any way to turn up the microphone. Correct?
