It will be clear to BlackBerry after the BlackBerry classic launch, that the classic is not what is needed to woo it's customers from the legacy devices unto the bb10 platform. To win those guys over and to win everyone back over, BlackBerry simply has to introduce..

    BB10 BROWSER LITE VERSION

People want their BIS back. Simply create a lite browser version that compresses data like the legacy devices and create data plans for it. Give people the choice to have compressed data or not. That way they can have cheaper plans like the legacy devices.
With this, BlackBerry can compete. Because right now they have no edge over the iPhone and Androids. And you know what they say, if you have no Edge, don't compete.
This might seem senseless to the US residents or UK residents. But it's a do or die affair for emerging markets and third world countries where data is precious.

Sounds likes a nice plan. Don't think it will happen, but a nice idea nonetheless.

They have to go deeper than that for your idea to be implemented. Every data exchange would have to be included when "compression mode" (the "new BIS") would be activated - otherwise you will still have superior data usage rates in comparison to BB legacy devices.

When BlackBerry only had this "edge" they lost customers in droves and slid to the least popular major mobile platform.

To say "people" want it is a bit of a fallacy. SOME people surely want it, but most don't... or don't care. And on some carriers, BIS plans are actually more expensive btw, although data usage is theoretically less so total charges may be less for some either way.

Anyway as an option maybe it's okay, but my opinion is that it isn't a good idea. Lack of clarity for the differences between BB10 and the legacy BBOS platform was a factor in BB10 not being an instant hit. It's not that people don't want BB10, it's that many don't know it's any different from the old BlackBerrys they disliked.

We would have to hear from users in places like, Nigeria, Jamaica, India etc.

PS does Onavo data compression app work?

Legacy users living in the past want it. Bad idea to regain popularity.

will never happen BIS is only active until the last legacy handheld is gone soon as that is done BIS is gone. they never built BIS into BB10 and can't add that type of feature without changing how it connects to the network now.
