Samsung announced in March that its Knox security suite would debut with the Galaxy S 4. That might not have happened exactly as planned, but just as the WSJ predicted the Department of Defense has given it the official hat-tip for use in government departments. Good news for Samsung, who will now see its Knox-enabled devices added to the alongside BlackBerry on the official list of approved hardware. This also represents the first time any Android devices have been deemed secure enough for use by US services. With iOS believed to be going through the same boot-camp trials, agencies could be about to get a lot more choice.

Samsung Knox gets official DoD approval for government use

What do you think the consequences of these devices being approved for US DOD usage? Blackberrys last niche feature security has now been conquered.

No, not the end of BlackBerry. BlackBerry are now heading into what's called Mobile computing and Samsung won't be able to compete if they still rely on Android.

Lol that Knox crap won't be used as much, the only phone with it is the s4. Too many flaws, BlackBerry is still on top of the security game, more than 50% of phones used in the government are BlackBerrys.

Yeah last time Blackberry dismissed the competition thinking it wouldn't catch on, what happened?

You better believe they are keeping an eye on Knox and making sure theirs is better or it'll be deja vu all over again and what little market share they have now will be even less, or worse.

It's a huge step for Android. People used to laugh at their security. Now they got a little more credibility. They can only improve from here. And if BB doesn't watch out it will bite them in the ***. Again.

Not the end yet, but in the words of BlackBerry, the end is "Coming soon".

Android and iphone have totally knocked blackberry out of the consumer playing field. Between them both they share that space, their feet are grounded with blackberry and windows fighting over scraps, in the meantime Knox has hit a milestone which is a first step to push BlackBerry out of the business space, with iphone following suit shortly.

PC or Mac which playing BlackBerry 10 apps or totally control of BlackBerry 10 handset can be a good start to show what's going on in BlackBerry Kitchen at Waterloo.

Milestone. but need to see it in action and actually on devices. note that this probably just a very low level approval and not for higher security. also need to see how it handles real world attacks. samsung programming has been suspect in the past, so I'm sceptical that they actually got this right.

Conquered? Really? So barely any if ANY company on Earth has yet to rely on this Knox stuff. BlackBerry for many years has been a staple in the enterprise. And with BES 10 BlackBerry kicked it up a notch with balance and support for iOS and android. Yet they are "Conquered".

    Lol. NOT.

yup.... it must be embarrassing fort Blackberry to come to the end by Knox which has been indefinitely delayed by Samsung .... with no explanation......Hmmmm

As for DOD.... they announced that BB was approved on their secure network for BB10, 7, Playbook and BES 10..;.. saw no mention of Samsung or Knox for that matter being approved for the DOD secure network.... of particular interest is that Knox was not actually mentioned by the DOD.....

A sad day for BB when one phone (Galaxy IV .. only one with Knox witch is not even released) does in the most secure network and smartphones currently available.....

So let me get this straight. The DOD is going to run BES with BB10 and lower. Then they'll have Knox for the Android folks to make them happy. And then they'll use yet another MDM solution for the iPhone lovers right? Sounds efficient. Or does Knox handle iOS? No? I thought not.

The DOD letting in Android and iOS sounds more like a boon to BES 10 than anything else to me. Since it will be able to handle all three.

I dunno about conquered but their stock is doing crap. It should be above 20 now. Ya ya...short sellers.... right...
If BlackBerry set the world on fire with the bb10 it would be over 20 a share by now.

Not really sure about predicting stock price behaviors since everyone was crowing that Apple would be the first trillion dollar company last year and in the mean time it's lost $250 from it's all time high. Seems like the street got that one wrong. As wrong as when BlackBerry was at $144 a share before Apple dropped the a-bomb on them. Lol.
