I have taken dozens, maybe even a hundred, pictures for tourists. I have had mine taken by locals when I go on vacation. This is just one *****, we aren't all like that in toronto.

You also have to choose 'the right person'. Chances are if you go with a parent and kid or a couple that you are safe. I've even once asked a really old guy to take my picture and he said sure, but that I had to give him instructions first lol.

One ***** shouldn't destroy the rep of a whole city, especially one as great as T.O

As a Westerner, I won't comment on the Toronto bit

Seriously, I always offer to take a pic so that the whole group can be together. One does have to use a little common sense when asking a stranger to do so.

I have friends that lived in Toronto and did that dozens of times. That same friend now libes in Calagary and both her an her bf had their phones stolen doing the same thing. Where it was is irrelavent just choose wisely who you give your phone to.

Doesn't surprise mean it happened in Toronto. Montreal is another place that's scam central..

No stranger holds my phone period. Especially when in tourist mode.

I would NEVER hand my phone or anything expensive/of value to a stranger.

Call me paranoid but I don't operate on the "who would do that" principle; I operate on the "who could" principle.

I just practiced a new highly-secure master password on a Post-It in pencil, then ripped it up, lit the chunks on fire and flushed it down the toilet.

The only people you should ever hand over your camera/smartphone to for a pic, are those you know you can easily catch in a foot race. Translation... an 80 year old couple too brittle to run.

Um... seems like an opportunity for the old couple to get robbed after you hand over the phone to them...

What about handing the phone over to one of those gangstas with low hanging baggy pants? He can't make a run for it either.
