Can anyone enlighten me about whether or not WhatsApp needs to be running on my device for other people to see that I'm "available "? For example, does Whatsapp need to be open as in an active frame for another whatsapp user to see that I'm available?

It works like that on all platforms.. if it isn't open or a conversation is, then you don't show up as online!

Let's say I'm talking to a friend using the hub but the application is closed. I will still be seen as offline?

That being said, I believe other platforms and open whatsapp have "invisible mode" I'm case you are interested.

Whatsapp is always running, even when not in active frame.

Actually that's what I was hoping for, I realize it didn't sound like it. I always want to be seen online even when there is no active frame

It's a little weird sometimes I'm seen as online and sometimes I'm not.

Other times I can Peek into the hub and read the short message without it changing to online.

A little hit n miss though me thinks.

Since it actually an Android port, and the Android Player keeps.running in the background, WhatsApp will act likea headless app. As long as it has been opened once, it can stay running in the background even if you close the active frame (as long as you don't log out). Skype does the same thing.

I'm going to enlighten you: that makes no sense :-)

The point of WhatsApp isn't that you have to be marked as "online" to be able to chat and everyone knows that. No one will not chat with you because you're not marked as online.

Who told you it was an android port?

Whatsapp is not an Android port.
