Does smrtguard require that the GPS Service be left ON? I assume it does inc ase the phone islost it willgive a accurate reading off where the phone is at vs GPSlocation being off and th euser getting a general area of where it is..
no, it does not. smrtguard turns your GPS on to check the location even if you have it set to off in the same way you can make it sound an alert to aid in finding your phone even when it is on silent.
don't think so. using smrtguard to locate my phone seems far too accurate to be using only cell tower triangulation. most of the time using the towers leaves you off by as much as 500 meters, and smrtguard is definitely more accurate than that.
For me, SmrtGuard is not accurate unless I manually turn on GPS. However I live in the city and connect to 9 different towers as I walk around my house. [I can see 9 towers in SmartWifi which I also use.] Without GPS on, Smrtguard will mislocate me as I bounce between these towers. If I turn on GPS and click on the pin on the map it actually pulls up my exact address. FWIW when using cell tower location, Poynt pulls up the address of the house next door when I click on my location. Go figure.
i just tried it from smrtguard's website and the location shows directly on top of my house. there is almost no way that tower triangulation can be that accurate, leading me to believe that it does, in fact, use your gps.
If you click on the pin on the map, the top line will say "Your Approximate Location" if you do not have GPS enabled OR it will say "Your GPS Location" if you have GPS enabled. What are you seeing on the 1st line?
BTW I meant to say Google Maps instead of Poynt in my previous post. Sometimes GM shows my exact location, sometimes it's off by 10 blocks or several miles.
