Default Does RIM pay attention to App World download patterns?

It seems with RIM trying to bring developers to support their platform, they're mostly paid for apps.

That's fine and all because developers need to make money too.

But by looking at the Top Rated sections in App World. Majority of those are free apps.

What do I infer from this? That RIM definitely needs a healthy selection of free apps.

On another note, something I'd like to see in App World is for the Top Rated/Top Free/Top Paid, they should add an unlimited scroll. Once you reach the bottom, it refreshes the next 25. And so on.

So that way you're not limited to just 25 of that tab. It's more user friendly and easier to explore more apps.

And for the love of God, let the eBooks have their own category or something.

Maybe the top rated are free apps because people, especially go easier on reviews of free apps and are more critical of paid apps.

I have a funny feeling that there is no unlimited scroll because that would reveal the number of apps out there. I agree that I'd like to see that but I wonder if it's intended.
Why is it that when your contract commitment is up, the phone you always wanted is now old and the phone you now want won't be out until the next quarter?

Probably not. The app stores of all varieties are more of a slick way for developers to cheaply and conveniently market their product at low cost.

The only thing you can infer from this is that free apps get more reviews, on average, than paid ones. The "rating" is calculated by multiplying the number of reviews by the average star-rating. An app with hundreds of 3 and 4 star reviews will be rated higher than an app with a limited number of 5-star reviews. Newer apps and apps with low download volumes do mot appear in the list regardless of their quality.

Exactly what I'm saying. Meaning there's a big demand for free apps. One of the reasons why I believe Androids so successful is because everything is pretty much free on there.

And if there's a demand for something, there has to be a supply for it. If not, people will look some where else for it.

I understand you as a developer wouldn't see much revenue on free apps. But I'm not saying there should be a flood of free apps in App World. Just a healthy selection of it.
