I no longer sweat it. I think back over the years at getting the first scratches on a new car, etc. And how at first it is aggravating and then after several days no big deal. Same with phones. In fact one of the reasons I use a BlackBerry is the fact that I have found them to stand up to abuse quite well.

Lots of great replies here. Thanks, everybody.

I should mention that the picture of the front of my phone makes the phone look a lot worse than it is. With the front picture, I was just trying to show the D/5 key pillar. I think it's a combination of dust/lint and my camera's flash that gives that view a really scuffed look.
I'm just glad I haven't noticed any performance problems after the drop. As for the minor cosmetic stuff -- yea, battle scars & character.

On BlackBerry's I never worry about wear and tear as I just replace

Does not bother me even slightly. As I have said before, it's a tool. As long as it works, I'm good.

I usually stress about a scratch or ding when I get the first one. After that, I seem to care less and less as they happen. Of course you would not want to have a ding or scratch, but you know that it will happen eventually unless you never use your phone.

No ding stress here. I buy my phones with the intent of using them and that's just what I do. They get dropped, dinged, and the paint wears off the keys.
I've never sold a phone on eBay after I'm done with it because nobody would buy it.
If my phone is still in pristine condition after a few months then I'm not getting my money's worth out of it.

My BlackBerry phones get well used and it shows. I take them geocaching, hiking, kayaking, biking so, yeah, they get banged up some...just like I do.
It's one reason I prefer BlackBerry. Durability. - 05-22-2012, 07:07 AM #35

I sat next to a RIM guy not long ago in a conference. He looked at my Bold and said "I've never seen one that looked so worn out".
Guess it's doing the job as it should.Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.

I am a big fan of insurance on my devices. I don't let scratches and dings bother me.

Tough call. I look at my phones somewhat like my vehicles. When I purchase a new workhorse, the first dent (knick, sctratch, etc) is always the worst. Every battle wound afterward becomes a little less painful as time goes on. I do try to protect the outside of my device as best I can with an Otterbox. And as long as my Blackberry works as hard and all day as I do ... Its all good. , EvenI have dents, scars, scratches etc and I still seem to work okay!

My phone is almost pristine (now I come to think of it), nicks, scruffiness and dings on it would bother me. I recently removed the screen protector as I prefer the screen without it however I do use a soft case that happily still shows off the metal trim of the 9900 while protecting it at the same time. When I first got my phone I thought I'd drop it all the time it was so light.
I am actually quite careful with my phone (well, with all my gadgets) and I think I've only ever dropped it indoors a couple of times (on ccarpet), unlike my husband who is always dropping his iphone (I bought him a tough rubber case that seems to make his phone bounce). - 05-22-2012, 12:55 PM #43

I can't speak for anyone else, but that is impressive.
I don't do anything to protect the 9900. It hit the concrete the other day, took some chunks out of the back but a used a nail file to buff it out. It actually got more damaged than my iPhone that also hit the pavement without a case from higher than the Bold did. My iPhone I usually run caseless or with a minimal case like a Belkin essential 050 series or a barely there. I don't have a case for the Lumia 710 either.
I think having the spare phones has made me less careful, since I know I have a backup should one die a sad death.

I had a Body Glove on mine, but the part that goes over the slider was breaking and the the rest of the case was wearing through the top layer so I took it off. I passed by a BB store in the Atlanta airport and found endo case and holster combo. I am liking it.
The picture a few post up is just me having some fun.
I only have a few scratches on the bottom of mine from when it bounced down a few stairs and then slipped through the grating and fell another half a floor. Adds character, plus I can't see it with the case on it.

While I cannot see anything on the screen anymore, this minor damage on the iPhone just means I use it in places where couch potatos are not welcome.
