I use paypal and read the description closely before I buy. I have only had one issue and paypal made good on it. I am also typing on a bb I purchased on ebay posting this response so not all deals on ebay are bad.

Just trying to warn others of the risk. The person that called me from RIM was quite rude and even said not to buy any more from ebay. There was no miscommunication about the BIS thing trust me. The only thing I wonder about is if there is something RIM is not telling me. Someone on another site thinks my phone was once a RIM internal device.

That's a 3rd party seller. I prefer to buy from amazon.com itself, not from 3rd parties on amazon.com.

I've bought my Bold 9930, iPhone 4, and Palm Pre 2 all NIB off eBay and I didn't have a problem with the content I received or the length of time I had to wait to receive it for any of those 3 devices.
Mobile operating system agnostic (for now):

Android OS: Motorola Droid 2, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Asus Transformer Pad TF300T 16GB with keyboard dock

I have had some good and bad experience buying phones on ebay. Most have been positive. I find selling things can be harder. I've had a 9700 on sale for over a month now. Each time I post it, a scammer "buys it now" and asks me to send the phone to Africa/Russia for their poor child in school. It takes ebay a couple days to figure out what happened before I can repost it again. This has happened 8 times in a row now.

I've never had any real problems with phones bought off eBay. I've done atleast 30-40 transactions in a year.

I used to buy on ebay until I found kijiji. I've been buying used phones from locals for the last 3 years(no more contracts, yay!). Still, all used products should be bought with the "buyer beware" understanding. If I think anything is remotely shady about someone, I wont meet them.

I've purchased two BlackBerries and my PlayBook on eBay. BTW, both Blackberries I purchased on eBay have never given me any issues....as opposed to the other I purchased on contract from at&t. Currently waiting to snag a Galaxy lll. Advice: Just do your homework (research the seller and start a dialogue prior to purchasing) - first.

Irrespective of seller ratings(not suggesting you ignore the ratings altogether) amazon helps resolve disputes and are pretty proactive when it comes to getting refunds/exchanges.

Like you also eluded to, the seller has above average ratings

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned buying used (or new) devices from other CB users in the CB Marketplace. Seems like a reasonable alternative since at least there might be a slightly higher comfort level and lower degree of risk than doing your best to find reputable sellers on ebay. Maybe there are better deals to be had on ebay, but when I glanced through the CB Marketplace a few days ago there were certainly plenty of devices for sale.

Ebay, like many other great things, has been ruined by the scammers and crooks. Pay attention to the feedback!!

I was having this issue awhile back. The best way to sell on ebay is to only sell domestically and block international buyers. You can do this in your settings. Since then I have had no issue except for occassional person paying in a timely manner.

Exactly - you can set it to what countries you will accept bidding from in the listing setup at the very beginning of the process. Works like a charm.

Bought my 9900 from ebay about 2 weeks ago. It was advertised as manufactuer refurbished. It was quite literally brand new and from a seller will a huge positive feedback.

I'd definatly use ebay again for a mobile as and when required.
