I'm finally planning on getting a smartphone. But I'm not sure if I should get the iPhone 5 or the Bold 9930. I love the look and quality of the Bold, but it's outdated compared to the iPhone5. Also BB10 is coming out in a few months and I don't want to buy the plan and wait a few months to get the smartphone.

if I were you I really would wait that extra few months for bb10 if you want to get a blackberry! honestly speaking, if you don't have any brand loyalty, i would not get a current blackberry and get tied in with a 12 or 24 month contract.... bb10 is the future, its brand new... your better of waiting or getting an iphone or android....

You're asking your question on a Blackberry forum..... the replies you get will be heavily biased towards one type of Blackberry or another. Both the iPhone 5 and the 9930 are nice phones, and if I were you, I'd go to the phone shop and try them both out for a bit.

I just got the 9930 after touching the great keyboard and touching the iphone keyboard. The 9930 is a kick phone and works as a phone should. The bb10 may not be the one for you, however you must wait until it comes out to make your decision

this, most people buy devices based on what others tell them to or convince them to get, or my favorite is they buy soemthign becasue its what the mass majority have so they figure its the best and what they should buy

What exactly is outdated? The iPhone 5 JUST came out. Almost every phone on the market is then outdated due to this. The Bold cannot be compared to the iPhone. You just cannot compare the two. They both have positive and negative aspects.

You need to choose what will work the best for your needs. Not what is popular, or what is outdated, or anything like that. If the phone does what you need it to do, it will be the best choice for you. The iPhone is a great device, it really is. It doesn't do what I need my phone to do the way the BB 9930 does, hence the reason that I don't have one.

OP, just want to make sure you know--9930 is the CDMA variant of the 9900. Which means that at least in the US, you must be on a CDMA carrier such as a Sprint or Verizon to get the best data speeds. And if you're planning to use it with a GSM carrier in North America, you'll have to get it unlocked, and you'll be stuck at 2G speeds.

As for what you should do, I'd say wait for BB10--but don't necessarily buy it just because it's out. If the performance reviews aren't looking too good, I'm sure the 9930 (and the iPhone 5) will still be around.

I'd go with the Bold and then get BB10 a couple months after release. Give it time to settle and major bug/fixes to be addressed. That is what I am doing becuase I am completely happy with my 9930.

But as others stated... get what you want. Test drive each before you buy. Spend time on the touchscreen keyboard. I can't stand the virtual keyboards, my digits are feelers not tappers!

I'm surprised I got so many responses in such a short time! Everyone made a good point. I think I'll just test out both phones for a little while on verizon to really see what I'd like. Thanks.

The 9900 is well matured now, very stable, longer battery life and faster then ever with the latest 7.1 update. Night and day difference from when it was first launched with OS7.
