Used to have a palm TX. Never even thought about it again when I switched... But that calendar on the palm was great. But the touch screen broke and I got it replaced 4 times! None of my bb's have broke yet (not counting dust under my Curve screen) and my 8820 looks even more solid!

I started out on my first smart phone with the Moto Q - Hated it. Then moved to the Palm Trio and thought it was the best phone ever, until I got a BB. I will not go back to anything else now. Started with the Pearl and now have the Curve.
I have the exact same story, minus the part about the Pearl

xv6700 from Verizon. I don't like using a stylus, touch screens. It froze up a lot. Was heavy and brick like.

I was using a Garmin iQue before I got my Curve. The iQue is a Palm and GPS combined. I really like the Curve, but hate that the GPS is crippled.

My first PDA was a Palm m125 or something like that. I've had a ton of Windows Mobile Smartphones and Pocket PC's. I still use a Moto Q9h for my work line and will probably switch to a WM phone at some point. I'm in no rush to replace my Curve but my dream device is still a Treo Pro with UMA.

Used a Visor Edge for years until I got my Curve. A smartphone was absolutely necessary, and all my friends/family are on Verizon, so the Curve seemed like a good fit. And it is.

I had a Sony Ericsson M600i, which I did like, but it used to do this weird thing where it would periodically reboot itself and then when it came back on tell you that it had "turned itself off to improve efficiency"...
Now I don't know about you, but I don't see how having your phone turn itself off in the middle of texting a long message, having to wait for it to wake up again, and then re-type the whole message again is "improving efficiency"

One thing I did really like it for was my mobisystems MSDict with the Concise Oxford Dictionary - it replaced my printed version - and although you can get it for the berry, the touch screen allowed you to click on a word in the definition and it would jump to that word's definition like a hyperlink, so it was the fastest dictionary ever. Because of this, it still earns pride of place next to my curve when I'm reading.

I've had a Mogul and a Q. I got frustrated with WM and decided to try a Blackberry. Ever since I bought my first Blackberry (8830) I haven't looked back.

I mainly used an SPV M3100 Windows Mobile smartphone (With BIS on it). Then I bought a 7130g for some development (I am a software developer), and because it came almost for free.

2 days after I started using the BB mainly, and still do so today. Just love it, and going to buy the Storm as soon as it's out.

hp pocket pc of some description (big fat heavy thing with a stylus), okta boss running windows mobile (biggest mistake of my life), nokia e61i, blackberry pearl. Don't know why it took me so long to finally get a blackberry, but I do know the next upgrade will also be a blackberry - a full keyboard version - SureType drives me bananas

I started out with regular phones. Then, I decided I wanted to go the smartphone route. Initally, I was going to go with a win mobile one. I did a little research and realized that was not the way to go. Eventually, after playing with my cousin's constantly, I decided I would go with a BB. I have not looked back.

I had a Kyocera 7135 Flip Palm PDA for about 5 years through Verizon, and now have a Flip 8220 through T-Mobile.

I liked the Palm touch screen for some things better than a trackball, though as I get more used to the trackball I'm more comfortable with it. I never got to like Graffiti on the Palm -- SureType is better for sure. However, with the Palm I had the option to bring up a virtual keyboard on the screen and type by selecting letters with the stylus. For entering proper nouns, email addresses and foreign words that's much better than SureType.
