I will be moving to japan soon and need purchase a new phone. I currently own a Z30 but recently dropped it on a Marble floor and cracked the screen. Because of the screen protector it did not shatter.

I am doing research but if anyone lives Japan and can offer any advise that would be so helpful.

Japan carriers do not carry BB10 devices. So if I purchase a BlackBerry device I will be limited by the number of bands I could access. The best carrier would be YMobile. 3G the divice is compatible with the carriers network frequencies. 4G the the device is compatible with some of the carriers network frequencies, May not work.

This a site to check any phone and carriers compatibility

Not that I know of, but I'm running an unlocked z30 on B-Mobile. Costs me about 2000/mo for 2gb. So far service has been great, uses the NTT Docomo network.

There are more and more low cost carriers in Japan that will let you use your own phone. I would just check the band compatibility, buy one unlocked, and shop for a plan here.

I'm currently in Japan, but I've never seen any BlackBerry phones in stores, whether service carriers or bigger electronics stores like Edion or Yodobashi Camera. I'm currently running an unlocked Z30 from Shop BlackBerry on Docomo (which seems to freak people out because it's not an iPhone), but even when people see my Classic, they're like, "What the hell is that?" That's not to say they're not out there, but they may be a hard find.

Honestly, though, my service is fine. I pay about $30 per month for 3GB of data and I've never had a signal problem, unless I'm going through a tunnel on my way to work or something. I also recommend getting an unlocked phone and shopping for a good plan when you arrive.

I purchased an unlocked Z30 which I am currently using with T-mobile. I did crack my screen but thanks to a youtube tutorial, I will be replacing it with a new one when it arrives. My fiance is with Softbank but I will definitely be checking out BMobile. Thanks for the information, it is very helpful.

I currently have an unlocked Z30. I will be replacing my cracked screen which I am really excited about. $30.00 per month for 3gb would be perfect. What carrier are you using?

Yeah, what a strange question. Practically all their domestic OEMs (Sony, Sharp, Fujitsu, etc.) use Android and Japanese love their domestic OEMs.

It's been established, he meant to say Priv. Move on, please.

To answer that question, Android phones of course abound, but the Priv has not yet been released here. But, as with an unlocked Z30, an unlocked Priv would most likely work as well.

Hi OP, here we use a Q5 and a Passport both with OCN mobile, a NTT Docomo company. Both phones can get 4g and use the carrier voicemail. There is a new MVNO operator offering the classic too but forgot the name. Look in the forums cause there are similar cases to yours. In Japan Docomo no longer sells BlackBerry phones but there are some specialist shops that cater to the BlackBerry fans.

Simple answer is no! However there are some small independent stores that sell them.
