Also, I never said Kim was a standard for anything, I can't stand her. You obviously missed the point behind my post. Just because the OP doesn't see people doing the "new age abbreviation", does't mean it isn't going on.

Let's make excuses for twitter now. LOL is LOL wherever it is typed. Maybe you haven't read some posts on twitter that clearly have under 140 character but still use the abbreviations. Please...
The point I saw in your post was to direct our attention to two twitter accounts, one was Kim Kardashian. Clearly I misunderstood.

I've read plenty of posts on twitter...and I read them as such. I've also read (and written) plenty of lengthy professional e-mails on my BlackBerry....with the same keen eye.

Again, as I said early on - it's down to personality and style.

Yes, and that point showed that BB users are doing it, no matter how much the OP doesn't see it.

As have I on my iPhone and Android devices.

I agree, it is all about style and personality. Professionalism can be achieved using any of the major platforms.

I have a few friends with iPhones who've sent me texts worthy of damnyouautocorrect.com. So far those folks are just lucky that I am nice.

I disagree, I think this is up to individuals. Not the type of phone they are using. Simple as that. Why do we have to stereotype, and classify people according to the phone they use?

Blackberry needs dictation built in like the big players. Something seamless, not the kludgy 3rd party attempts like vlingo (I despise that app). Keyboards are becoming less and less relevant as voice technology advances.

Wow I've used LOL, IMHO, FWIW, etc before ever owning a cell phone. My abbreviation usage started on iVillage forums in 1997ish. First cell phone was in 1999. First smart-ish phone was in 2007.

BTW, I used abbreviations over a decade before writing my Master's thesis. Intellectually lazy my arse.

A lot of abbreviations did have their origins in Usenet newsgroups.

I knew what FUD and RTFM meant long before I got a cellphone.

First time I ever saw "LOL" was on AIM in the late 90s. Around 1997.

I'm largely going to sidestep the OP completely (while admitting there's likely some truth to his post and that it likely applies to me to some degree).

I DO think there are some cultural differences between Blackberry users and those who choose other platforms, though, and some of those differences aren't helping RIM right now.

There's a certain smug elitism that Blackberry enjoyed until, say, the Playbook launch; it was the choice of lawyers, bankers, and Congressmen. No coincidence, none of THEM are held in any particularly high regard these days, either.

The BlackBerry is the phone for the 1%, and that's poison for the brand right now. I think for many people, RIM's decline is much more entertaining BECAUSE of the smug attitude the company seemed to hold, and how quickly that's evaporating. Hubris at its finest.

Well if we stick to what the company itself is saying - blackberry users (outside of the corporate) are more likely to be poor or young and on low tier contacts.

Sorry to upset so many people. I was just stating that BlackBerry owners tended to be more verbose. I also indicated that the device was more suited to the task.

Yep . And it sounds very narrow. What scope of Blackberry users does your statement take in? Does it include non business people, teenagers, users by country, people over 50? There are 70mil plus BB users. How did you account for them all before you came to your conclusion?

Or does your statement only include people within you reach?

    Very silly assessment.
