    What is the difference between unlocked device and a carrier purchased device???

    In general, when you purchase a device via a carrier it is locked to their network.

    An unlocked device will work on other carrier networks as long as it's compatible.

    Just got my first unlocked device, Z30. I'm using it on my previous carrier that does not sell this model...just had to move the sim card to the new phone.
    Note that I will no longer get carrier pushed updates to this phone since they do not support this model. I will need to manually perform OS updates, but that's OK with me.
