The box came with the edges white, meaning not new.

The sticker plastic that you have to cut to open box was already cut and there was another sticker plastic on top of that one.

And there was a little like fur or dirt specks or something on the phone.

My Z30 was resealed as well. I read somewhere they open it up to load the latest firmware.

I had that problem too, after one day the screen stopped working but since I don't live in the us and the return policy wasn't the best just got a new screen but I think that's what happened

Sounds like it. I highly doubt Digital River opens them to load the latest firmware. They are way to shady to buy from and the one time I ordered from them was a complete cluster.

Exact same thing happened to me with my new white Z30. Besides the dirt on the device.

I don't think it is refurbished however. I don't think BlackBerry would much refurbished stock available.

Did any carriers even ever carry the white Z30?

You've obviously never had a return to Blackberry before. Something goes wrong with your device and they send you a refurb.

The excuse of opening the phone to update the firmware seems fishy since the end user can do that themselves.

I had a new z30 from verizon, after 2 months it acted like someone was constantly clicking the screen in one spot making it impossible to do anything.
Verizon send me a replacement that came with no back so this was probably a refurbished phone.
I took the back off mine and put it on the new one then sent back my broken phone.
