how much memory does the curve have on it? How much should be taken up by system software. I have about 14mb free, is that normal? I unlocked the vendor themes a while back, just want to make sure I don't have double the os files.

What do you have for Options/Status/File Total? The difference between that and File Free is what's taken up by your applications, themes, etc.
I'm not sure if this will help but my difference is 51293592 and I have 32330344 file free.
14514650 file free
58064896 file total
26613190 file free
58064896 file total
You have to keep file free well above 10 000 000 bytes to avoid problems, so you have sufficient free memory. Your File Total is higher than I expected. For comparison purposes (apples to oranges) my 8830 has File Total 47 841 280 and File Free 23 876 816. File Total is static; File Free varies with activity.
You can look at the first link in my sig (the Stoner Procedure) for ways to increase your file free.
Thanks jbrown for corroborating the File Total. I'm not that familiar with the 8310.
internal memory is 64mb depending on your software it can hold a 8gb memory card everybody looks good with memory except xtracrispy69 I'd suggest deleting some stuff.
thats what I'm wondering...got a few themes, deleted most, moved all necessary sounds to my card....could the reinstall of the os due to unlocking vendor themes have doubled the size taken by the os?
No, reinstalling the OS will not double its size...but some of those vendor themes are quite large. If you've got a bunch installed, that's where some of your memory has gone. Have you performed the Stoner optimization, as shown in the procedure in my sig line? If you haven't, you've probably still got some stuff you don't need or use taking up your memory.
The Stoner op works great, but I'm wondering if you have pulled your battery yet. I was amazed that my free memory jumped from around 12 mb to over 24mb after a battery pull. Then I did Stoney's optimization and gained another 6mb free.

thx for your help guys....be working at both threads trying to optimize memory, just doing the removals now...one question I have, the guide says if you remove the cod specific to the preloaded wallpaper you lose custom folders, what are they?
Custom folders are folders you create on your blackberry home screen. If you delete the cod, you can still create folders, you're just limited to yellow as a color. With the cod, you can have different colors. It's a personal preference. I don't use folders, and prefer to have the memory.
Folder Edit Tips
If you are keeping a lot of folders, it is nice to have the colour choices.
I presume you are finding that interesting. There will be a lot of common ground that we cover, I would appreciate your feedback if there are sections you find confusing.be working at both threads trying to optimize memory ...
The thread is in continuous development, feedback and new information are incorporated as they prove effective. Most of all, it is a community effort, a lot of us have a stake in seeing it mature into the best of the best. ;)
well guys got 21 mb free, 58 file total....can't figure where the rest is...got viigo, 5 themes, msn, yahoo go, google maps installed....those can't make up for 30 mb
The memory optimization guide in Jeff's sig will help.
It would also be helpful to know what OS you are running.
4.5 with all the add-ons takes up more memory than say 4.2
5 themes can consume a good deal of memory, and Viigo
can cache quite a bit. You may want to clear it out. I no
longer have it installed so I can't tell you how.
with rogers so running 4.2 os, haven't heard of many 4.5 running bug free. Will wait for rogers to release 4.5. Cleared all my cache as well, hovering at 22 mb free

22mb is good, and a lot better than when you started.
Keep an eye on the Viigo cache, and make sure you close
any open apps by pressing menu and then close / exit.
Pressing the back button does not close them
I know of a couple places you can find out how much space is used by certain things. One is under options > status > menu > database sizes. The other is when connected to your pc open desktop manager and open the app loader. It shows some of the apps installed. I personally have wondered if there is some place you can see how much space every app takes up since there are quite a few preloaded apps that don't show up in the app loaded. Unless there is a setting I am missing to get everything to show up.

yeah found the database option....things look good. Must just be app and themes taking up space
I was looking at the various database sizes and can understand the call log and that it stores for 30 days. What is the Content Store? It seems pretty large. Is it something to be cleared - if possible, that is.

The content store is the blackberry's internal housekeeping memory. You can never empty it entirely, but here's a thread that shows how you may be able to reduce its size: http://forums.crackberry.com/f52/con...-memory-22322/
