CrackBerry Kevin's closing comments in Mobile Nations #17
Normally, Kevin Michaluk is gungho about RIM and BlackBerry. However, his comments in Mobile Nations #17 at 59:39 onwards, I believe reflected his opinion as more glum about RIM's future. Here's the quote, in response to Rene's question, "Kevin, you're not getting a new OS, so what's the story going to be?"
Kevin initially talks about flying to Waterloo and attending the AGM on July 10th, but then his comments turn more dour with hint of optimism, perhaps?.
http://crackberry.com/mobile-nations...rdware-profitsWe're in a dry spell. Honestly, every day these new phones are not on the market, it gets harder and harder for RIM. Ah, you know. I am always an optimist and a believer, but I think that delay is the first time my confidence got really, really shaken, that you know if they can't get it to market soon, then maybe it never comes to market, right?. For me, October, looking at their balance sheet and cash in the bank, you know, the value left in the relationship with carriers around the world, not necessarily in the U.S. I am like okay, there is still time. But you know moving to 2013, it's gets far away, far away, and it gets a little more scary. I am hoping for the best. You know, you got to think about the worst. 'Cause you're dumb, if you didn't. I really hope they can pull it off, 'cause I think there are people who want BB 10 phones……
What do you think? His mood is temporary, he'll bounce back to his cheerful self once Q1 2013 arrives?Last edited by the_sleuth; 07-08-2012 at 09:10 PM.
Evolution of Communication: Rotary Phone > Dial Tone > Motorola Walkie-talkie > Nokia 2160 > Nokia 6190 > Samsung a460 > Samsung a920 > BB 8700 > BB 9530 > BB 9860 > PlayBook 32GB > z-wait is over, BlackBerry Z10 for me - 07-08-2012, 09:13 PM #2
I think he's simply honestly expressing the same feelings that most of us have. Along with his hope and optimism lie deepening concerns. The unfavorable outcomes that we thought weren't very likely as recently as a month ago are now more of a possibility. Doesn't mean he thinks they're doomed, he's just realistically acknowledging what's more of a possibility than it was.
So contrary to popular belief, we're not all delusional and in denial.Last edited by sleepngbear; 07-09-2012 at 07:53 AM.

IMO Kevin is just being realistic and shares the same opinion we all do. It is scary. And as an fellow investor, it is important that RIM delivers BB10 like yesterday. The waiting game can kill them. Kevin would be not entirely truthful if he tried to sugar coat RIM situtation any more than he stated.
But I for one am hopeful that they can deliver. I believe they have the right CEO now to lead them and their concept for BB10 is spot on.
Sometimes it's better to reboot and be late to the game so you've had that chance to evaluate your competitors and better them. But in this case RIM needs to also hurry.Last edited by lynxs_claw; 07-08-2012 at 09:16 PM.

Kevin will be back long before BB10 release date if/when it happens next year. Although other smartphones are featured on here, it's still CrackBerry.com. Kevin is the ultimate BlackBerry Hype Man. LOL, the kids on here claiming to love CrackBerries pail in comparison. It's what he does - everyday. But, he has also been very candid about mistakes and missed oppotunities by RIM since I've been a member on here. I respect that. I can understand the comments. He is entitled and if anyone need to be honest about what's going on, it's Kevin. RIM may have bought some time or caused more issues for themselves because the platform and BlackBerries are not ready and as awesome that we're told they are, ppl still have to want them. Also, the buyer brand comment (where everyone buys one just to support RIM out of loyalty) I keep hearing is not the same for all members. Hopefully, 4G PlayBook and the "end of an era" devices- OS7 BlackBerries will sell until next year(well, hope springs eternal).

For me, the only somewhat suprising comment was the comment that this delay is the first time his confidence has been shaken. All I can say to that is that he has (or had) much more confidence in RIM than I ever did - my confidence in them was all but destroyed a year ago. I'll always use RIM products but, for me, it has seemed for a long time that things were at an end. I hope things do turn around for them as I would hate to have to go to another platform - but optimism, I certainly dont have.
To RIM haters - Why dont you go find a parade and rain on it. - 07-08-2012, 10:17 PM #7

I'm pretty sure crackberry is the most visited of the "mobile nations" group. I could be wrong but if BB folds I wouldn't be surprised to see the group slowly falter and slide out of relevance.

If you hear in the first part of the podcast he's pretty on point but I think that part at the end just reflects his views from the crackberry website viewpoint cause with no new phones coming out soon means less to report on.

His confidence waned because he was confident bb10 will launch q3. He even put his hair on the line. He started to do mobile world nations world tour to by the time he finished with all the other platforms he can review bb10 with a good comparison. With all the other editors trying out bb10 as well. But the timing got jacked and he would have to wait way longer to show what Rim has.

I feel his pain , we all feel his pain. Hopefully RIM will keep those guys motivated to go to end product, while all the developers just go all out on it and port their apps over.
Everyone has got to pull together. Keep your hopes up and don't allow all this gloom to affect us. - 07-09-2012, 06:19 AM #13
I think he's having an affair with a white soap box ... lol
Must say I didn't like to ear this, as a conclusion. BUT we must give him credit for his other statements during the podcast. I believe this conclusion does more harm once written here than it was in the context."I speak English like a Spanish Cow"

I appreciate the realistic view presented by Kevin. Although he is without a
doubt the best cheerleader (no offense intended) BlackBerry could ever hope
for he is also not one to sugarcoat things. Very admirable in this day and age. - 07-09-2012, 08:49 AM #15
Kevin has always been honest in his reviews and commentaries about RIM and his latest broadcast was the same. There are people that sugar coat possible problems or setbacks and try to dance around them but Kevin has never done that but has given CB readers and followers honesty and reality. Thanks Kevin for just being you!

As much as the number #1 Blackerry fan, Kevin is also working on his contingency as just in case scenario with the Mobile Nations Tour. He wants RIM to succeed, we all want RIM to succeed; but realistically waiting until 2013 is going to have a huge impact regardless if the final platform/os does end up being the cat's .
Not releasing a single new product in 2012 is not a very good strategy. Now we are stuck with 'leaked' images and rumors. - 07-09-2012, 12:35 PM #19

Sad to think that there is anyone who would even think that.....frankly I prefer CB to any site out there. I have recently visited a site that made me cringe. Nothing but complaining, moaning, and hate while they mistakenly see themselves as a positive oasis of BB loyalty.
Ran out of there before they infected me.
I am a staunch supporter of RIM and CB.Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy, and good with ketchup
Isn't it amusing how people who claim to not enjoy CB at all simply can't stay away????
It's because it's CRACKBERRY, the BEST BB site....

Each person creates his own happiness...how does that go? what goes around, etc etc?
Frankly, I'm a glass full kind of person. Sure the haters and all different kinds of naysayers get to me sometimes. But I can still choose my reaction...sometimes I fail and sometimes I succeed.
Still.....fully support RIM and CB.Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy, and good with ketchup
