    Default Connection to PC

    Hi Friends,

I am new to the BB world. I have a Bold 9780. I've had it about 1 week. The other day I plugged it into my PC to charge and my PC asked me what I wanted to do. I said "charge only." Later I wanted to add some music to have a personal ringtone, but now my PC won't recognize the BB. When I plug it in or out the PC dings, but there is no icon and when I go to the system folder there is no way to click on the BB. I have restarted and that did not solve the problem. Ideas on how to solve this would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Mara

Welcome, Mara! Glad you found Crackberry, you will get all the help you need here, but sometimes you have to be patient - maybe the member with the answer might not be logged in and will respond later.

RB68 gave great advice - for LOTS of BB issues, 1st step is a good old fashion battery pull, same with PC - good old fashion restart. Then - come back here with results. IF RB68's advice helped you, click on the "Thanks" icon on his/her post.

Thank you. I did pull the battery and restart the PC. Nothing changed.

Hi Mara and welcome, rosebud mentioned desktop manager, it's a piece of software which syncs to your phone so that you can transfer music photos media in general it also can sync calenders, contacts tasks memos etc from outlook but also importantly it will make backups for you. So go to the blackberry web site go to support, find link for desktop software, choose from pc or Mac and download. Hopefully all from then will be ok connect to the computer via cable usb it should then recognise it and open DM automatically. Hopefully the rest should be self explainitory.

    Hope this helps

Try to disconnect your USB cord and then restart your computer. Then when you plug the USB cord in, the computer will need to recognize it again.

Since you chose "charge Only" your computer wont recognize.

All you need to do is unplug the phone from USB and then plug it back. When you see the options, dont choose anything. Your computer will recognize it and then you can open "My Computer" to add files.

Download Blackerry Desktop Software. (I use Version 6, but there may be newer ones available.) After that's done, you can find in Desktop Software options), the setting to have it open automatically if you want it to do that. If you'd rather open it manually, you can always just click the icon on your pc.

After you've downloaded Desktop Software, each time you plug in your Blackberry, there should be three options to choose from that show up on your Blackberry's screen: USB Drive, Sync Media, and Charge Only. If you want to simply drag and drop stuff from your PC's windows to your Blackerry, use USB. If you want to use Desktop Software to make a backup, to transfer encrypted files back and forth between your pc and your BlackBerry, or to sync your organizer, click "Charge Only." In both cases, if you're using a password, you'll have to enter it on Desktop Software and/or your BlackBerry handheld.

Thanks Tonis I didn't know that there was difference in the three option functionality, we learn from each other every day.

Thanks for your help!!! I was not using the desktop manager I have downloaded v. 7. I was not able to transfer the content directly to the BB as the BB was not recognizing the media card. I put the media card in my mp3 player transferred the song that way than swapped them. Now I have a happy new ring tone.

    Blessings to you all!
    Mara
