I've always wondered this but have never asked. In all the pictures of the Z10, Z30, and Q10 it shows when you are either peaking or have your HUB open that it is colorful. Almost appears as if like there's a different color for each type of alert. My HUB is just plain plain old grayish. Just gray icons and typing. Here's an ad picture. Is the way to change the colors of each notification to make the HUB colorful and more easily differentiate a Text, from an Email, etc.

I believe in the picture they are unopened massages, so they still have color just as you would. When you open the message it turns grey so you can distinguish them.

Yup, Unread is the grey icon.

If you want even more colour you can add it to each account.
Hub -> More -> Settings -> Hub management -> (Pick an account) -> Account Color

Mine are exactly coloured as in your photo, and if you want to add more colour code each email account can be assigned a colour code in the hub.

Thanks for all the answers. Totally got it now. I typically read and respond quickly through notifications so my HUB always shown as always read I guess? Thanks again...

No offense but I can't believe that was a question lol all new msgs are coloured buuuut I agree, at times u can't tell what's a text or a BBM. Maybe a better way out there?
