Yeah, I've noticed some of her posts to be excessively negative, but not trolling, as her excessive negative is all valid points. I still stand by my point of use the report button and let Kevin decide. And yes, I've been guilty of calling some of her posts trollish... Simply because I've let passion take over productivity (in thinking terms), and taken the excess negativity to heart. Fuelling the fire I know, but that's my problem and if that warrants a haitus from CrackBerry so be it, it was my mistake and I must be punished for it (I personally think a permaban of the ISP type with a nuclear bomb detonated on my house to blow me up, but maybe that's just a tad excessive)

There are also cases of folks who just don't mix well. Both may be fine folks, but for whatever reason they just don't see eye to eye. It does NOT mean that either one is a troll or that either should be banned. The ignore function, and/or just mentally ignoring them is KEY here. And of course just burying the hatchet, agreeing to disagree and just getting along with that person for the greater good of the site is what we REALLY want! We don't have to be best buds with everyone, in order to get along!

Great post pk. This is exactly right. Many people think that just because someone disagrees with them, that makes them a troll.

I'm one of the people who probably is amongst those who are the 50-100 viewers who saw some of those threads. I've seen some threads where a poster asked something that had I answered, it would not be a kind response (due to "shady" details in the original question). In many cases, if I see something that is not actually a violation of forum rules, but might be a violation of my ethical values, I'll simply ignore the thread.

The "T" word is used way too much on online forums. If there is indeed a troll present, just report the lil fellow and move on. Too many times a perceived troll is just someone offering an opposing viewpoint; I welcome that. Not everything in life is rainbows and unicorns. Again, good luck with all of this. Cheers.

    Thanks, Kevin... That's really good.

For those of you who doesn't know, Rule #14 and Rule #19 of the internet:

14 - "Do not argue with trolls - it means that they win"

19 - "The more you hate it the stronger it gets"

What Kevin suggests (report them) is more than enough because they'll enjoy their ban.

    Let's keep it clean, Forums.

Hey Paladin. I'm autistic, here, and I get what you are saying. What I do is try to not post when I am emotional, also, try to use emoticons to indicate friendliness or confusion or stuff. I also try to be very specific, especially when making comments about what others have written. I'll use words like: in my opinion, I disagree with this point, etc, stuff that shows you're talking about the idea and not the person. I keep a mental list. Read your post before posting, and see how it makes you feel. If you really aren't sure, ask a friend to look it over. (I have several friends who know they might get called on to look at something to answer: "Does this seem bitchy to you?")

Oh, and never post when you feel like you're about to have a meltdown. (And if you're a chick, never post when you have PMS. Or have PMS with an impending meltdown.) Because, from experience, this just leads to Bad Things.

I'm glad this is happening. Trolling, as defined by Kevin and others, had been a little outta control lately. Especially the last few months or more.

I can't lie, I find it somewhat amusing at times because some posts are just ridiculous, but it does get annoying when it starts happening for pages upon pages in threads where there is potentially information you'd like to see. Then you're stuck looking thru countless pages of nonsense just to some times realize that the OP was never actually answered, or no new information was discussed (or given) because the thread was "taken over" so to speak.

CrackBerry has always been my One-Stop-Shop for all things BlackBerry! I also try and contribute to the Forums and help out whenever I can! I like to think I fall into the BlackBerry Enthusiast category...but there was definitely a time when I was mainly interested in learning all that I could! Ahh, back in the day lol

I have faith in our Fearless CrackBerry Leaders and everyone involved!

Last week I really had some reservations whether I wanted to continue being part of CB. I hadn't really visited CB after being too busy with life and just being satisfied with my 9700. When I got my PlayBook, I decided to dive into the forums again, and (un)fortunately venture into the PlayBook side of things. I just got a different vibe - way different from what I was used to. *I* thought CB was a forum to help other BlackBerry and PlayBook owners. Those helpful posts were there, but the constant ranting and raving (from both sides of the coin) just made it feel as if I ventured onto either a "purely fan" site or "personal soap box". As an outsider, you really don't feel welcome because you are forced to take a side, and you don't want to contribute because you don't want to be looked at as an *****.

I'm not a stranger to internet forums (including moderating a few sites), and I'm well familiar with trolling or people who have VERY strong opinions. Just as there are some veteran members, new ones join the rank. We've ALL been that "new member" before - new device, not knowing where to go (or search). We often lose sight that when we read a post, type away in this little text box, and hit 'Submit Reply' that it's all done virtually. It's not as if that person is standing right there. For many folks, we act a lot differently talking right to their face, compared to just bashing a few keys together and not even considering the human side of our interactions with each other.

I'm a bit comfortable knowing others have felt the same way, but it also makes me uncomfortable because it reaffirmed my earlier belief that CB may have changed. What is reassuring, though, is those who have posted and read this thread (probably) want to grow CB into a larger and better BlackBerry community. Here's hoping for better change and a better CB nation

I missed that one. My answer would be the same as yours. My school email requires BES. If one is not on the BES (which students cannot be), it is necessary to forward the school emails to another email address. I had that issue myself, and found the answer by speaking to the school IT people.

FINALLY!!!!!!! I am so glad that this site may go back to the informative site it used to be. It IS a blackberry site and I see no need to read the opinions of others on how they think their non-blackberry phone is better. Go to the forums that support your phone unless what you have to say is constructive.

Or just go to the proper boards right here in the CB forums. Yeah we have iPhone, Androind and all the others right here for people to talk about.

Can't be called trolling if they post there. They can express "their feelings" and everybody else won't need to deal with it.

    Win-Win.

Intelligent opinions are always served with an open mind. These are not by any means trolls and are always offering their opinion in the hopes that someone else may contribute a possibly missed counterpoint. There is nothing wrong with freindly debates and banter. It was the main reason I became an addict. My favorite place to draw from the huge library of collective experience and infinite insight. I am very impressed that the hardcore members could express their feelings and get a much needed response. That just let's us all know the Mods are truly here for us all. Thank all of you for restoring my faith. See you all in the forums!

Great news Kevin! Just to add my two cents, I'd like to see those who start threads advertising products banned too. Who wants to be looking for help or a theme, etc, and be bombarded with threads selling phones, shoes and viagra? Some other BB sites are getting waaaay too cluttered with this garbage too. Its not been so bad here in CB but they pop up from time to time. There... I'm done.

That is very true. As I stated before, I'm autistic, so can sometimes go a little headstrong when someone posts a negative opinion about BB (all I ever see are one liners against BlackBerry and stuff like that so it peeves me off that even in the BB part of the BB forums, there's nothing but negativity about BB)...

That and if I wasn't smart enough to lie and say I'll just get an Android, nearly punched someone in the face yesterday because they were patronizing me about my phone choice and saying everything I did for the BB was to justify my purchase and that Android and iPhone are way better given the cost. Which they may be, but he was saying I have to buy a non-BB next and that they're gonna die... Seriously, I was so close to getting myself banned from that Subway store for what I almost did! Start my day with a breakfast sub and a massive argument with me being patronized but me not patronizing back... GREAT START!

    ...

Would like to disagere there. Kevin uses iPad, iPhone, BB, etc. I even think he has a few Android and Windows Phone device lying around (care to confirm Kevin?). He himself even talks about the shortcomings of BB. A leader who can think level-headed and know the platform inside-out, positive and negative, and be willing to share both sides, is a great leader for this forum if you ask me. And what about former BB user Civic who has gone to the iPhone. She never says anything postitve about BB, therefore that's another mod clearly not in denial. The members say the postitive, she chimes in the negative to balance it out.
