First post, but I've been lurking for a while:
I was hoping someone with experience could help me choose a new phone that will last me until BB10. I don't know what I should be looking for when trying to buy a used phone. The trackball on my 9630 stopped working, so I need something to last me until Q1 2013 (If it gets delayed again, I'm switching to iPhone).
Also, I'm on a college budget, so I just want something cheap that does what I need it to (bridge to my playbook, 3g, email, Pandora, etc.)
Wifi would be nice, but not necessary.
    Thanks very much.

If you want new, you could get a curve for cheap. See which ones your carrier offers. Otherwise, you could surf craigslist/ebay/kijiij to get a good deal on a used handset.

Yep. You could buy a 9320. 9360 if you can spare a bit more. In my country, it costs like 20-25 dollars more. If you can spare a little more, get a Bold 9780. In my country (again) it costs 100 dollars more but it's a good phone to use in the long run compared to a cheap 9320.

Oh, I don't know the prices of BB handsets in the US, but I'm just giving recycled advice that I gave my brother. Cheers!

Without knowing your location it is hard to be specific.
Does your 9630 just need a repair kit? That would probably be the cheapest. Next, check kijiji or Craigslist. at least where I live, you can get an 9700 pretty cheap, in my office they are just sitting in drawers.

Go with one of the curves, either the 9320 or 9360. Both are very capable and run OS7, which is miles ahead of any top-end OS6 phone and they may be cheaper as well. Just check craigslist.

You can also get a 9310 with unlimited data talk text etc from Boost Mobile for 79$ outright and not be tied into a plan. I think the monthly bill is like 50$ for the unlimited plan.

With Verizon, you'll need to look at a CDMA phone...9370 I think is their only OS7 curve.
Edit: just checked, they have the 9310 too. Quite expensive right from Verizon though...

Whatever device you decide to get, make sure it is provisioned for Verizon so you can use it on your current plan. If you get one for another carrier, Verizon might not accept it, or it might be a royal pain to get everything working.

The 9320 is so light you can use it as a GPS tracker when going for a run or bike! (I use the Endomondo app with it). I find it funny when people wear these huge transparent plastic arm sleeves with their gigantic iphones (can't even imagine an iphone5 on that).

Bought 9320 at Wally World for $148. They are now $178 for Telus and Virgin no contract. Unlock and away you go if they are compatible with your carrier.

Too bad you can't use a USCellular tour on vzw or I would just give you my old tour for shipping.

I appreciate the offer. There's a 9630 for sale in ATL for $50. I think I'll pull the trigger on that.

Go to gazelle-store on ebay and you can find lots of used curves. Gazelle is good to buy from because they offer details of any flaws and also a good return policy if the device is not as described.

I'd rather get one of the newer Curves like the 9360 rather than the older 9780.

You get OS7. Plus better memory and processor.
