So im trying to set up my old blackberry 9530 for my dad. It was locked to Telus so i unlocked it (network says inactive under sim card options so i know for sure its unlocked). I put in his Bell sim card but I cant get the phone to make calls. Anyone know what I need to select under Mobile Network Options at this point? I think it should be GSM/UMTS but that doest work.

I know this is an obscure question on an ancient blackberry model, but any help would be appreciated. Will also post in the 9530 forum, but it doesnt seem very active.

Bell doesn't have a GSM/UMTS network. They have CDMA and HSPA.

If it was a Telus Storm, then it was running on 1x EV-DO. You can't use a Bell Sim card in it, but you might be able to get them to register it on the old CDMA network.

wow thanks so much for the reply. 1x ev-do is one of the options on the phone actually. so you are advising to call bell and ask them to register my dads sim card on their CDMA network correct? or am i calling to ask them to register the 9530 handset?

You will not be using the SIM card at all.

What you need to ask them is if they will activate the Telus 9530 on their CDMA network.
