My Dad gave me his BB bold 9650. My Verizon plan is covered by my employer and I don't want/need access to the full G3 network. I just want to use the phone, the wifi and sync my calendars/contacts.

Can I just pop the SIM card with the regular service plan into the BB?

I'd test this myself now, but I lost the old phone (thus my Dad's gift).

    Thanks

Verizon doesn't use SIM cards in the US.

When you go to activate the phone you will be forced into a data plan, no way around it, you must have a BlackBerry Data Plan to use a BlackBerry on Verizon. They do offer a $15 data plan now though.

ridesno is correct. Activate that BB on Verizon, and the data plan is automatically added.

On TMobile you do not have to have a date plan to use a bb. I went w/o one until 2 wks. Kind of sorry I added it to be honest, nothing but problems ever since.
