If you dry out the phone by using something like the rice trick and the device is able to turn on again, you'd definitely be able to get your info back. If you can't even get the device to turn on... well, it would be pretty tough to do.
Well, I took it to an ATT store and they inspected it, decided it didn't have any water damage, and replaced it. All I can say is WOW. Total relief. Plus, they salvaged my data. :)

How did it not have water damage when you clearly dropped it in the sink? Was there water in the sink?
They usually only check the little square sticker by the battery. If the phone didn't go in deep enough, or long enough, the white sticker wouldn't turn red, therefore "no water damage."
