Why don't RIM reduce costs of BB7 handsets?

How can they expect to sell much hardware when people know BB10 devices are around the corner?

Who in the right mind would sign up to a 2 year contract on a device which for some will be obsolete in 6 months.

    Thanks

You realize that the carriers, and not RIM, set the price of the handsets, right?

But RIM could reduce price to carriers.

Is that not common sense to get more handsets out there?

Most people will wait for BB10 therefore RIM are unlikely to shift many handsets until they are released.

Bold 9900 and other BB7 phone prices in the area I lived (Ha Noi- Viet Nam) has drop significantly. The have drop from 14.000.000 dong to 7~8.000.000 dong full retail price at an oficial partner store.
Note, 1$ is worth around 21.000 dong

I wish my contract would have run out around the time BB10 came out, I love my Torch but damn it, they better keep support on OS7 at least for a little while!

BB7 support will be remaining for likely a good couple of years. BB7 phones will likely remain for sale for a good couple of years, for that matter.
