- Ok well this is gonna be my first BlackBerry and im havin a hard time deciding. Only reason i would consider the 9000 is because of the trackball and how i seem to like it better than the trackpad. But then i heard the 9000 isnt getting OS6 so now im contemplating the 9700 (or 9780 if AT&T gets it soon enough). I know the 9700 has more memory (i think..), but besides that is the 9000 too outdated to be a good phone or something? One thing i would want to be good on it is the web browser.. Doesn't have to be as good as the iPhones, but something efficient would be nice. Is the web browser on the 9000 good enough to use for a little bit of browsing or so? Trying to make a decision asap because i need a new phone..
Any opinions would be appreciated12-07-10 09:14 PMLike 0 - After owning both... Go for the 9700. It is the better blackberry. The only thing I can see going for the 9000 is the size and keyboard seemed nicer. Don't get me wrong, the 9000 was/is a nice phone, but the 9700 is regarded as one of the best bb's ever. If you can wait for the 9700 refresh, the 9780 to launch on AT&T, it might be worth it. Problem is, no one knows when it will be released.
I'm sure most would agree that the trackpad is superior to the trackball. Less maintenance.
EDIT: If web browsing is is an issue, have you thought about the torch? It has OS 6 loaded. Other blackberry's are efficient, but not great. On my 9700 it's ok, not great, but ok.Last edited by sallenthornton; 12-07-10 at 09:24 PM.
12-07-10 09:21 PMLike 0 - Any device with OS6 will have the superior native browser. The 9000 will not get OS6, so if browser is your biggest priority, the browser on any version of OS5 falls way short of being what one would consider "good" in comparison. Of course there is always Opera and Bolt for aftermarket ones that are better than the stock OS5 BB browser.
Do you know anybody in person with either of these who would let you play with theirs?Last edited by the_sandman_454; 12-07-10 at 09:28 PM.
12-07-10 09:25 PMLike 0 - I would have trouble going to a 9000, and I loved my 9000 when I owned it. If one doesn't want to burn their upgrade, might as well buy a discontinued 9700. It is slated for OS 6 and still has a solid resale value.
There are always new models coming and I decided to wait for a QNX blackberry to come out. I'm tired of paying full price or burning an upgrade for devices that have small upgrades from previous models.12-07-10 09:30 PMLike 0 -

But yeah i think ima ask around and see if anyone has a 9000 they wanna sell.. if not i guess ill just upgrade to a 9700..
Also, if i were to buy a phone off somebody and just put my sim in, it doesnt count as an upgrade right? As in, i could still upgrade to a different phone with the discounted price.12-07-10 09:40 PMLike 0 - You are correct. If you own the phone already, it does not count toward your upgrade.
I agree with the decision on the torch. I hated it when I owned it. Just figured I would throw it out there. Don't judge me!12-07-10 09:45 PMLike 0 - I had a 9000 before I got my 9700. I would not recommend the 9000 at this point in time. The device memory is woefully inadequate, and it is almost a requirement to shrink the OS in order to have a functional device on OS 5.
The battery life of the 9000 is not as good as that of the 9700 either. I needed to switch from 3G to 2G (EDGE) to get my 9000 to last all day with heavy use. I have no battery issues with the 9700 on 3G all day.
I would suggest checking out the Marketplace Forum. You might be able to find somebody selling a 9700 at a good price.
By the way, if you do get a 9700, do not buy one that is T-Mobile branded. T-Mobile and AT&T use different 3G frequency bands, so you will only get EDGE if you use a T-Mobile branded 9700 on AT&T's network.12-07-10 09:53 PMLike 0 - I had a 9000 before I got my 9700. - Great Choice!
I've personally been through the 8100, 8310, 8900, 9530, 9000, 9700 and now the 9800. The last 3 are the best BB's ever made in my opinion. While the 9000 is a great device, the 9700 is better for reasons mentioned above. The 9800 is also a great phone, but I can understand why some people don't like it.
Enjoy your 9700!12-07-10 10:06 PMLike 0 - the bold 9000 has the perfect design but outdated specs like 2.0 mp camera, 480x320 display, etc.
the bold 9700 has great specs like 3,2 mp camera, 480x360 display, etc but it size and screen are its low points.
i have both of them and can't justify which one to use as my daily driver. im hoping the 9900 can satisfy my needs. but for now the waiting game continues and ill have to stick with what i have. but you can't go wrong with either 9000 or 9700 if you like all blackberries.12-08-10 10:32 PMLike 0 - Thanks for all you guys' opinions. Ordered the Bold 9700 yesterday.. will probably be getting it on Monday.. Would love for it to get here tomorrow, but oh well. So excited... i need a new phone badly. My Samsung Impression has been buggin for the last few months, ex. not getting calls / not being able to send texts unless i take out the battery.12-09-10 05:54 PMLike 0
