Enterprises are usually not entities who throw around money needlessly, for services or devices they objectively don't need, if there isn't another good reason for it.
IT equipment especially, and Tablets/Smartphones are to be considered as such, is usually as cheap as possible, while being as expensive as necessary.

Tech hardware (not talking about wearing parts obviously) and software replacement cycles are INCREDIBLY SLOW in the enterprise sector.
There are obvious reasons for that.

So, the race to the enterprise sector you talk about, is an issue that is far more complex than you try to paint it here and you are mostly wrong in your assumptions at the same time.

What we see, is that the traditional smartphone manufacturers try to evade to compete on price with each other, more than necessary.
The unbelievable amount of cheap, but yet well specced Android phones could be proof enough already.
But the exceedingly "good enough" midrange phones, like a Z30 are indirectly competing with flagship offerings already.

So, what those manufacturers now try to do, is to tap into new (for them) market segments.
They hope to either sell more phones overall, or even more phones with a higher price, because of enterprise specific features.

This however, does not equal to "to steady and big cash flows", as the replacement cycles are just too long. Obviously, this is better than not having those market segments, but if not a lot of things change in terms of replacement cycle culture, the enterprise sector buying devices for employees, won't be that big of a game changer, for the smartphone business.

BYOD and subscription based enterprise services (like BES) will be the far more important battleground.
And there, Samsung is a much better contender for the BYOD fight than BlackBerry, while BlackBerry is the perfect entity to profit from a subscription based model. Because there you really have a steady and pretty transparent cash flow.

And further looking at BlackBerry becoming more and more irrelevant in the hardware department?

You really don't like BlackBerry phones, do you?
Woah what's wrong with you man? You're always so negative and miserable about everything in the forums. Please cheer up a little bit mate

I think that you are misunderstanding something here.
For BlackBerry's Software department, this is great news. Probably some of the best we have heard in a long time.
And I said that in this thread very clearly already. No negativity to find here.

But for their hardware business, this is rather bad news. They basically gave up on BYO BlackBerry. Since they also more or less left the consumer market (Z3/30/Passport are definitely consumer devices though) I don't see a lot of market segments left for BlackBerry, apart from government contracts and heavily regulated industries where nothing below BlackBerry's level of security would be employed.
This isn't a negative representation either, this is just what it looks like.

Or do you see any positive aspects for the hardware business?
