I know this probably been stated before but I'd like to see them come out with a $99 phone. They had the 9310 and I liked it but they're not making it anymore. I think there's a market out there for a $99 phone. Samsung makes lots of sub $99 phones. I'd love to see them price the Bold at $99, I would bet it would out sell all their other product lines.

The race to the bottom is not one BB should be competing in IMO. Look at how things fared for companies like Dell and HP when they 'raced to the bottom' in the desktop computer space. I would rather BB carve a smaller but more profitable niche, like Apple has done with their iMac's and macbooks, and will eventually settle into with the iPhone once all the Android OEM's (including ultra cheap ones like Xiaomi, etc) take most of the market. BB's focus should be to make money. Market share at the cost of losing money is not something I agree with.

Maybe a phone like the Q5 should be priced at 99$ let's face it it's becoming more expansive than the Z10 in certain markets.

    Q5 at 149$
    Z3 at 199$
    Z10 at 249$
    Q10 at 349$
    Z30 at 449$
    Passport at 599$

When the classic comes all qwerty phones should go down at least 50-100$
    Q5 99$
    Q10 249$
    Classic 399$

Remember when the Q5 was introduced? Besides the Q10, the Q5 was for the cheap sector. Here, students, low sector.

But remember it was priced way too much. Forget the price in its start.

    But for 99 bucks it's a steal.

No. Blackberry does not need to make cheap phones. Leave all the cheap phones to companies that are losing money on cheap phones. There is no margin in that market.

If all BlackBerry did was make phones, then a $99 phone might make sense. But BlackBerry does a whole lot more than just make handsets.

And, frankly, their target market for phones is enterprise and prosumers, not emerging and low-end (though the Z3 has apparently done pretty well in those areas).

They are targeting emerging markets with BBM, which can run on cheap Android or Windows Phone handsets. That sounds like a better short term strategy.

Don't want to rain on your parade, but Q5 is no longer available in quantities and I expect them to be no longer available sometimes next year. Also, Q5 was not designed to be sold for current clearance price of $149, so too expensive to produce.

BB is too small of a company with way too high of development costs to build phones with a razor-thin price margin. Even if they could build a viable phone for $90 their (hardware) cost (and I don't believe they can, given the RAM requirements and the small quantities of parts they buy, preventing economies of scale), making $10 in gross profit per phone would lead to big net losses because of development, marketing, shipping, and all other costs.

Chinese companies, making phones in China, and using a free OS that costs them almost nothing in development costs are able to make phones that cheap and still make a small profit, but they bear almost none of the costs that BB has because BB has its own OS to support.
