So I've relocated to Jamaica and had to get rid of my AT&T plan.

After living here for a while, I remembered BlackBerries can be unlocked! Then I remembered people saying "you can't use data on an unlocked phone". Did I remember that right? Is that the rule?

Here in Jamaica there are two cell phone providers available to me (Lime and Digicel) and both of them carry BlackBerry devices and offer the BlackBerry data plan.

If I unlocked my BlackBerry Bold and put in the sim card (with my BlackBerry data plan activated) would my BBM and Email applications work?

Is there a way I can make it work?

I tried to search the 500something pages to see if this had been addressed. I'm sure I missed it. So I'm all for someone just posting a link.

    Thanks in advance!

You can use data on an unlocked phone. If the provider that you're with offers BB data then you're good to go.

I believe that after you put in your SIM card, you have to send the service books for your provider though.
