I had the Torch 9810. It is a great phone. But moving to a BB10 phone makes more sense in the long run.

It all depends on the size of the phone you want, other then that they're pretty much the same. My wife has the 9790 and it's a great little phone with good battery life, not as good as the 9700 mind you.

PS here we go, you ask a question about two Legacy devices and promptly BB10 devices are suggested, not that long ago we were getting "why not android" or "why not iphone"

Get 9790 if you want:
- small handset that can fit in your pocket nicely
- the style of 9700 family line
- good keypad better than 9700 and 9810
- less battery life than 9700 but better than 9810

Get 9810 if you want:
- bigger screen
- choice of virtual and physical keypad
- better screen resolution
- love a slider Form factor (thus having a thick body)

I used to face this condition and finally I choose the 9790 as my phone for a year and I love it

Now I'm a happy Z10 user haha

If you enjoy what you have now and are looking for something similar, compact, and efficient, the 9790 would be a great upgrade to your 9700. However, if you're looking to venture a bit out of your comfort zone and want to try something new and different with a larger screen, the Torch is never a bad choice. Just be aware that there's quite a difference in terms of typing; although the keyboards themselves are fairly similar the 9810 will feel quite a bit more top heavy.

My ultimate recommendation however, is to upgrade to BB10. In the long run it'll honestly be a much better choice, and IMO is well worth the extra cash.

The torch and 9790 are great phones.

If you want a 97xx class phone, I would actually say go for the 9780 instead. The 9790 moved from texas instrument processors to the cheaper mediatec soc's - the device was a tad slower and it really took a hit with the browser rendering. The battery was equally fantastic, and the typing experience spot on, camera with autofocus really nice... and it is CHEAPER - if you can find it!!!

It's an older device but still sells very well, in the UK, and better than the 9900... it was a really good work horse phone.

That said go with what suits your need and try everything out. Android and apple have deals all the time. But it's not the BlackBerry experience so...
