I have the 8520 BBCurve and would like to know weather to keep the Memory Booster or Advanced RAM Opimizer Pro.

As these 2 apps were free I decided to try them both and now am not sure which one I need.
Or is there 1 that can do both and is free...

Try every application out and see which one would suits you the best.
There is also paid ones, i'm can't think of any now atm though.
But you can try out to see the TOP applicatons in BB appworld, CrackBerry Appstore etc.
Try to read the reviews and test them out on yourself, keep the best one.
