I have a 8700r and I also have access to a BES server that I use to sync Exchange Server.

My question is, most black berry plans offer email (BIS service) but I want to access my own BES server.

DATA plans are more expensive for blackberrys than other PDAs.
If I have my own BES server, can I opt for a regular PDA data plan, or is there some other reason that I need a blackberry plan.

    Welcome to CrackBerry!!

I do not think it is possible for other smartphones to run off of a Blackberry Enterprise Server (hence the name)...

Hi bmcclure937, I am not wanting to use a smartphone on a bb data plan. I want to use a black berry on a regular data plan because I have access to a BES server.

I may be wrong, but I'm thinking that if you dont have BES on the phone side, you lose the push email aspect of the BB, and just fall back on polling the server for any new mail.
