Betrayal *shakes head*
For some reason and I do not know why I feel the need to hang on to my Blackberry, as the people around me with them are dropping like flies I feel some inner sadness. Maybe cause a Blackberry is the first smart phone I ever had? Who knows. My father who works for a very big Canadian company called me today while on business in Seattle and his phone sounded like garbage I could barely hear a word. He said he was getting a new phone and he would call me back. I text messaged him and said "you should just get the same phone I have" (which is a 9900 and he has the new torch) and he replied "I am getting an iPhone"..... WHY do I take this personally?! Why do I have this inner feeling of betrayal. Does anyone else deal with this? Is it an underdog thing? The need to constantly try and explain to others why I am hanging in there when it would be so much easier to just go over to the dark side... I keep telling myself these people do not know what they do. Brainwashed!!! they must be....
Yet I will still hold fast, and carry on. I just do not know why. - 05-09-2012, 02:47 PM #2
I think it really just comes down to what works best for you. If a BlackBerry is doing what you need from a smart phone, why switch? I like my Torch 9860, it accomplishes what I need it to. Of course there are a couple of things that other phones offer that I would like to see come to BlackBerry, but overall, I'm happy. I like the ease of use BlackBerry offers, and the familiar OS when upgrading to a new phone. BlackBerry 10 looks like it will probably continue that. Even though its being redesigned, I get a strong sense that if you have been a RIM supporter, it wont take much to get used to.

I had my phone out when I got on the elevator on Monday and a passenger noticed it (a 9900) and said to me, "What a great phone! I don't know why people don't think of it as good, but its terrific!"
My phone works very well for me. As much as I want to see RIM succeed and for the user base to grow, the current demographics don't enter into my assessment of whether my phone meets my needs. I"m nutty enough to be frustrated by the lack of respect my phone gets, but the fact that so many people use Androids, Iphones or Windows Phones doesn't move my personal needle at all. How would it be easier to make a change just to be among the side that's winning? I have more apps than I need already. My phone works and works beautifully with my Playbook. That is what matters to me.Z10, 10.0.10.684 -- Playbook 64gb, 2.1.0.1032 and Surface Pro 128 - 05-09-2012, 02:55 PM #4
Don't tale stuff personally OP.
My wife got an Android because it looked fancy and was nice. I didn't feel betrayed. She's still my wife (lucky for her).
And the after a year and being out of our BB group I convinced her to buy a 9650. She loves BB now. She has stopped using Facebook as BBM social keeps her connected with those who matter. Shes not about to give up her BB anytime soon.
Next up is BB10 for me and a year later for her.
So if you love someone, set them free, and if they come back, they are yours forever.Through the Years :2001 Ericsson T29s> Sony Z5> Sony Z7> SE Z600>Moto A760> RAZR V3>Razr V3i>BB 8800>BB 9500

@Jolt - f'n hilarious.
@OP - I gave my stepdaughter an old Curve 3G to use when her messaging phone crapped out until she was due for an upgrade. I was hoping she'd want a new BB, but alas she wanted an iPhone. So she could play Words With Friends with her mother. Oh well. She wants what she wants, and she's happy with it. A close friend of mine dumped his BB for an iPhone, and he now gives me crap about sticking with a phone that doesn't do anything. So the last time he went traveling on business, I slashed his tires, put something that looks like a pipe bomb in his luggage, and then had sex with his wife. Not because I care what he thinks about my phone, he's just an a-hole.
Actually I didn't do any of that stuff, but I really don't care what he or anybody else uses or thinks of my phone. Does your BB work best for you? That's all that really matters. You shouldn't need to see the current hottest trends to justify what you use. - 05-09-2012, 03:05 PM #7
No need to take it personally. I love my BB and I've got most family members who use BBerries.
Other family members use other devices, and that's OK too.
Personally, I use all three major platforms. Love then all, since each has its separate specific strength...and weakness.Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy, and good with ketchup
Isn't it amusing how people who claim to not enjoy CB at all simply can't stay away????
It's because it's CRACKBERRY, the BEST BB site....

My first smartphone was a Curve 8310. Since then, I've owned an iphone 3gs, an htc inspire 4g, and a motorola atrix 2. I guess I've come around full circle because I just exchanged the atrix 2 within the first 30 days of my new contract and got the Bold 9900. I am finally at peace again.

It took an apple, and 2 droids to realize how much i missed my Blackberry. And owning the Flagship of the BB's makes it even more special.Last edited by straycat5.56; 05-09-2012 at 03:18 PM. Reason: typo

i can understand where the OP is coming from.
when close friends and family switch to iPhone/Android i get that weird feeling of "Noooo! Why??" lol
I hate constantly explaining why I still have a Blackberry or standing up for why it works for me. It get annoying at times. Even people calling it StruggleBerry irks me lol!
I think we feel this way because WE know what Blackberry's can do, and when people who blindly criticize it, we feel like we have to prove a point or take up for it.
But at the end of the day its just a phone. Its not a big deal really. - 05-09-2012, 03:45 PM #12
Blackberries are like the Lakers. They have many fans... but also many haters. For some reason... people HATE the Lakers. Its one thing to just not be a fan, or be a fan of another team... but some HATE the Lakers. Its the same with RIM.
My friends will pull out a windows phone, a nokia, or even a metro phone... and NOBODY says anything. I pull out my 9900 (which is by far nicer than the 3 above mentioned devices) and folks will chime in "WHY do you have that phone?" Its the weirdest thing.

We have these feelings because we made a decision, not because of a device. we feel the people are calling into question our integrity and intelligence when the deride our technology decisions. When we tell iPhone devotees that their device is just a toy what they hear is 'you are an easily led moron who knows nothing about the technology you are using.' That is why we can feel betrayed. Everyone here is right. It's just a device, but the perception is personal.
Edit: I was hoping my 200th post would be something witty...oh well.Last edited by Chaplain_Clancy; 05-09-2012 at 09:18 PM.

Several people I know have IPhones and the call quality is just horrific and they frequently drop calls while we are talking. So when does the core metric of the device not matter anymore? First and foremost it must perform as a phone, in my perception. Adding the "smart" designation should be the added tools, not the prevalent feature.

Completely agree with the OP. Thank you for posting this.
I feel betrayed because I'm Canadian and it's a canadian company. there are a lot of great canadian companies and inventions but no where near ad many as the americans. thats why i respect blackberry and back them up when people say negative things about it. - 05-09-2012, 04:51 PM

I think part of the reason I feel that way too is because I pride myself on being more tech aware then the people around me. So when I see my love ones switch just because someone else tells them it is better then I have this inner feeling like "what!?? you trust their word over mine?!!? how dare you" ahahaha. I have a close family member who switched to an iPhone and is showing my dad these features the iPhone has and I am like "Yea..... your blackberry does that too...you just never use it..." but it is like speaking to a wall.

I generally won't take offense unless they specifically try to target me with a reply such as "Blackberry sucks why do you have that phone?" But if someone respectfully says they don't like Blackberry, I let them have their own beliefs. Like today, a girl said that she upgraded to a droid the other day because she burnt out her Blackberry Bold battery from "using it so much" I don't see how she did this, but she isn't exactly the smartest person in our class, and she didn't attack me when I brought up how I preferred Blackberry over Android, so I left it alone and even helped her with her Android. I am often amazed how what I find so simple, others are so bewildered by it. (she didn't know how to exit an app)

I'm with you. Someone can simply disagree with my choice... or try to compare their phone to mine and im cool. but, when they say "oh wow you have a BLACKBERRY" in that tone people have when talking about something beneath them... thats when i feel it

My mother and father just got smartphones within the past year, and are technologically retarded for lack of a better term. He bought a droid x and she got an iPhone. I've had a smartphone since the treo 600 was released, very technical background. My dad has asked me why I use and Blackberry and he's heard they are going out of business. I just say it works for me best and he heard wrong. He hates his droid but mom loves her iPhone and he says he'll get an iPhone when he can. Hopefully BB10 phone will be in my possession @Thanksgiving this year and I can make some converts, but then again an iPhone may be best for them given anyone can use them. Just let it go OP. Your dad will either find something that works for him better, or be back.

working in wireless... I HATE when I see this! Older folks that dont need smartphones run into these shady salesmen that just want more commission and sell these phones to the wrong people. Then the customer comes in and needs a bunch of tutorials.
