When your BES loses connectivty to the Internet due to ISP service failure can you still send a PIN message from the BES to your users Blackberry devices? If so what means does the BES use to send these messages to the handsets gps, gprs?
Trucky is correct, PIN peer to peer messages rely largely on the wireless network. PIN messages are sent to the RIM relay server and the destination wireless provider is identified based on the PIN, and the message is forwarded directly to the recipient.
A great explanation can be found here, under Figure 2.
Thanks chaps for your support with this, is it the case though that this will only work if the bes remains connected to the internet so it can first send the pin messages to the BB relay at RIM? or can the messages get there wirelessly?
