How is it that I never knew this. Seems somewhat important/useful to me. All I have ever heard was that BBM needs a cellular signal!
I'm so far from a cell signal its not funny! Try the middle of the South China Sea. I had my phone in my bag for the last 2 weeks. I decided to try out the wifi on it and boom I get a BBM.
If I had known this in the past. I guess theres just not that many people that would get any use out of this feature for it to have been discussed, but for me its a biggie!! Love BlackBerry!

BBM and email work on wifi....yes. but they need a BIS/BES account still to do so. they wont work without that. sure is helpful when cell networks go down, but you still have wifi access.

Yup, I have a Curve 8530 on OS 5, and BBM, and pretty much any BIS service works over wifi.

If I lose signal, I put on my WiFi and continue with BBM.
