This may be a really dumb question but..............I've never used BBM because I thought I could only send/rec msgs from other BB users. Am I wrong? If I can BBM people w/ phones other than BB, how do I make them a contact?

No you're right. BBM is only for people who have BlackBerries. What you want is to contact people who use other phones...well that would have to be Whatsapp or another messaging app.

BBM is only between BB users. It cannot be used with any other platform.

You can, however, add/set up text msg contacts via your BBM list. It is still just simple text messaging though. Its just a little bit more convenient way to text your contacts (if you prefer texting).

If you DO choose to add people as a text message contact in BBM, keep in mind that they won't be able to see the BBM emoticons, they are only visible to BlackBerry users.
