So I had this thought muddling around in my head for a bit.
I do not have the knowledge to do so, but has anyone ever tried, if its even possible, to gut a playbook or BB10 os and use it as a structure for a desktop pc?

Then add the other bits like a bigger hard drive, more ram and other connectors to make a complete unit running desktop.

I'm sure its come up on here before, but if it hasn't ,why has no one tried it?
Playbooks are dirt cheap nowadays. If I were tech savvy and knew how to do it, why not give it a whirl?

I know you can just use the HDMI out and go to a tv and get a similar experience.

Uh if you gut the PB and add other bits, aren't you essentially building a LAPTOP? I bought a new one for 400 bucks. Hardly think all that is worth it.

    or a desktop. essentially yes.
By other bits I should have said something along the lines of a bigger hard drive some more ram etc.
I'm willing to say that at least 75% of the world that has consumer electronics i.e. computers, mobile phone etc basically use them as internet access machines with other minor applications that either OS can handle.
Could I be entirely wrong? Yes.

There are people that need it to do more than just internet access and thats all well and good.
But that 75% use it as just that. Internet, media, games, messaging and some form of docs to go or MS word.

And Playbook OS and BB10 do all of that pretty well out of the box.
    No need to waste anything.
Kinda like the PC $99 from this movie :The First $20 Million Is Always the Hardest (2002) - IMDb
    But not to that extent.

All the functions of a regular PC or Mac go to waste in a Non- tech savvy consumer household.

Because it would be horrible to use on a desktop. How many people have touchscreen monitors anyway!

    Umm...
Windows 8, every tablet pretty much out there.
No one says you can't add a bluetooth keyboard or bridge your phone to it and use that as a mouse and keyboard.

Yes but bb10 and pbos is not designed with mouse in mind. It's all gesture supported which would be horrible on a monitor.

Well HDMI out to a monitor and add a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and perhaps a wireless hard drive and you've got your desktop.
I don't know if there's such a thing as a bluetooth touchscreen monitor but maybe the Z30 could use a usb one since it can use usb storage and such.
Though you probably want a monitor that can rotate 90 degrees

Swipe/gesture commands still somewhat exist when phone and tablet are bridged together.
So the gesture based os is unaffected.

    BlackBerry Tv?
I also wouldn't mind a BlackBerry OS10 for tablet, laptops, and even desktops.
Microsoft gas Windows tablets and laptops.
Apple has the OSX Macbook and iOS devices.
Google has Chromebooks and pretty much everything Android.

Are you talking about a full on desktop running through a PlayBook?

    Thanks for pointing that out.
It's pretty much along the lines of what I'm thinking.
