Are updates to the OS going to be big 300+ downloads or can they just do fixes with smaller files? It seems silly to have to download the entire OS to do a minor fix and there should be a lot of small fixes coming.
If the wait until there are enough fixes to make the entire 300+ download feasible, then there will be a longer gap between fixes.

What's the problem with 300mb file? Certainly better than Apple's iOS which is sometime as big as 600mb...

I am interested in knowing if updates will come directly from BlackBerry or are they going to be pushed to carriers like they used to...

It really depends on the update, some may just be bug fixes (small), other would be entire OS upgrade (big, an example could maybe be 10.1).

they will likely be patches like the playbook and come in sizes that are needed the way the OS is stored is very differen't and the BBOS sits in the system like a virtual machine where you need a disc image of the system to launch it
